It's 4 first rounders as compensation cause any deal over a 5 year deal for an offer sheet, the total amount of the deal is divided by only 5 for the cap hit and thats the number used for the compensation. also, it makes no sense for the Leafs to even do that. 1) it pisses other GM's off and then they can turn around and offer sheet their RFA's (like no ones done with Nylander for a reason) and 2) it makes no sense to throw that much money into a top 6 forward group. Tavares already at 11M, Marner will probably be around 8.5-9M, Matthews will be around 12M even after he takes a discount, Nylander will probably be around 7M.. thats 38.5M on the low end for 4 guys. Add in an 8M winger and you're over half your cap in 5 forwards still with important players to extend soon (Reilly, Andersen, Kadri, Kapenen, etc.) They need help on the back end. Makes no sense to offer sheet for a winger when they need help on the back end. Also, Calgary would almost certainly match that offer anyways.
0/5 ... if I could go lower I would.
