Blues say hell f'ing no. Pietrangelo by himself was 9th in Norris. Schwartz in 59 games scored 62 Points. You didn't even pay enough for Petro much less Schwartz. Nylander isn't god.

Leafs say no. Leafs don't need help at LW. Is Pietrangelo that good NOW. Cap wise it doesn't work at all for the Leafs. Bonus carryover from 2018/19. I can't imagine some of RFAs accepting so little....that could be UFAs.
Zaitsev probably can't be traded without cap being sent back to the Leafs.

Leafs have enough cap space this year to cover bonus there shouldn't be any carryover. Your right about zaitsev would be tight to move but you can also flip Brown and bring up Grundstrum its real tight in this year but once marleau is done it opens up more cap space. Also I was conservative on the bump in cap space only moving it 2.5M good chance it could go up another 1m-2m on top of that.

Sportsnet had Petro ranked as the 11th-best NHL defensemen of the past 3 years. You can use that evaluation, or you can use the last 2 months of average hockey he's played with a 2nd-to-last-place team.

I'll talk about the NOW. Leafs can't afford Gardiner next year so the Leafs can't afford Pietangelo. Plus the trade for oft injured Schwartz...cmon.
I understand some folks obsession with trading RHDs to the Leafs at a very big price, which not other teams would pay, but really if RHDs would the panacea for success, wouldn't the Karlsson, Weber, Pietrangelo, Shatternkirk, Parayko, Burns have more than one Cup final appearance.

This is basically a trade the leafs can’t say no to. Schwartz almost outpointed Nylander in 20 less games and is signed at a totally reasonable contract. I totally understand and respect your stance on Pietrangelo, but this trade is a major leafs win.

Letang, (prime) Seabrook, Doughty, you left off all the ones that won the cups! I know Petro isn't the best fit for TOR and I know that RHD tend to have over-inflated value on this site. I was just warning against using small sample sizes to paint an untrue narrative. Petro has a lot of trade value, regardless of his stats this year.

Of course, some players have to play RHD. Still say there is this obsession by so many , including some Leafs fans that getting a good RHD...at any cost is the way to a guaranteed Cup. It ain't.

Schwartz is injured....again. Where does the Leafs? Leafs LW is very goo. Cap reasons it certainly doesn't work for Leafs as the Leafs have to zero bonuses carryover into next year. Leafs need the cheap ELC Liljgren to play RHD very soon. Can't Pietrangelo be traded to an other team besides the Leafs? (which is the trend). Tampa can't afford him next year either.

That's a problem often with trading high priced (good) players to contenders. These contenders have no cap...except for maybe retained expiring contracts at TDL. Extending these players into the following year without equal cap coming back are difficult trades.

Blues already suffer from lack of heart and passion for the game. Why trade for a guy who doesnt give a crap about a team whether he plays or not as long as he gets paid? Blues don't need another guy like that in Nylander.

Leafs cover all bonus carry overs from 2017/18 and the current year in this season even with the trade and still have 1.5 in space in the 2018/19 season they will have zero carryover to the 2019/2020 season

I'm not sure if that is correct. In order to pay the bonuses this year, Horton's 5.3m contract has to be "on the roster". It's about the only detriment to LTIR. Leafs have been carrying over their bonuses, in previous years, but certainly don't want to do it this year.
