I wouldnt trade Kapanen straight up for Simmonds. Kap is having a better year already and is just about to enter his prime while Simmonds has already left his prime. Kapanen will be a cost controlled RFA for years and Simmonds will be an expensive UFA. This trade is practically treasonous. I would do the Tanev trade but Vancouver definitely wouldn't.

TOR will not be able to resign Kapanen for what he's going to want, Simmonds will be a veteran rental player that comes at the cost of Brown and Kapanen. I think the player trade-off is good value, picks would adjust whatever other value Which is why I agree with you. Why wouldn't you add a proven veteran for a playoff run, cause we all know that once Matthews and Marner sign monster contracts, its going to be kind of difficult and I think it's hard to argue that.

Kappy and brown are two guys built for playoff hockey. Fast defensive players that kill penalties grind like hell and put up points.

If Kapanen has really cooled off with 6 points in his last 10 games then Simmonds is ice cold with 3 in his last 10. You think adding a 30 year old soon to be UFA player who is having his worst season in the last 8 years to a whole new team and system for about 50 games is going to be beneficial to the playoffs? Kap is an important part of the future and the present. Trading him for Simmonds would be short sited and stupid. Kap for Simmonds is a dumbass trade that Chia or anyother idiot GM would make and is the kind of short sited move that Kyle Dubas would never and should never make.

This is a perfect sum up of everything that is wrong with the proposed trade. Brown and Kapanen are key cogs on the current team. They kill penalties and provide depth in the lineup. Kapanen's speed is explosive. There is nothing wrong with Simmonds but it's not like he is Ryan McDonagh (who was signed for 1 more year). this would be a step back this yeat and a MASSIVE step back next.
