Marleau contract runs out before the Seattle expansion draft. Lot can change in 2 years. Some players you don’t have listed will become eligible. And you have no idea what the rules will be for that draft. Every expansion draft has been different. Let’s not jump the gun.

They confirmed that the rules for Seattle will be the same as the Vegas draft, and that Vegas is exempt.
Also you could probably protect Ozhiganov or Zaitsev over Liljegren, as he'll likely be exempt from selection

As long as Liljegren doesn't play i think 10 NHL games this season he does not need to be protected.

Lilegren will be excempt. Zaitsev doesn't have a NM/TC so he doesn't have to be protected. Unless leafs pick up a D this year or sign Gardiner by miracle they'll protect Ozzy. Hyman also doesn't have to be protected cause he'll be a UFA if I'm not mistaken. There's much better options on the team and it'd be good to Dangle Hyman to tempt Seattle.

How will we dangle Hyman if hes a UFA? I think we will lose either Johnsson or Grundstrom depending on who we protect. I think Dubas will move on from Hyman and Brown by the time the draft rolls around.

If Seattle signs Hyman then that will count as their expansion selection.

They wouldn't bother doing that when they could get Johnsson or Grundstrom while also just waiting to sign Hyman if they really want him on July 1st. I mean id be really happy if they chose to just select hyman and sing him early but don't think it will happen.

The point of it was that they could leave Hyman unprotected and protect 1 of Johnsson or Brown if he's still around. Also Grundstrom might be on his entry level still so I don't think he needs to be protected either. It doesn't matter I think it'll be Sparks that's taken.

It isnt entry level deals that protect players, its accrued years of professional experience. AHL counts as proffesional experience as long as you arent 18 or 19. Grundstrom will have acquired at least 3 year of either AHL experience starting at age 20 or NHL experience depending on if he makes the team in the next year or so. He will have to be protected or exposed in the expansion draft.

I would leave Hyman unprotected no matter what. I don't think we should resign him when his current deal is done. What he brings isn't important enough to warrant an increase in salary when we will be close to the cap. Gotta save that space for Reillys next deal and Anderson.
