Why would the Pens want to give up so much for a 34ur old expiring ufa rental? Doesn’t make much sense. It’s not like he is tearing it up this year...

I agree with above. Plus, Johnson has been playing just fine.

I dont disagee that JJ is probably the worst signing under GMJR, but thats a hell of a steep price lol. Look at teams that are rebuilding + a first and I think that can get rid of his contract. Teams Like OTT, ARI, and maybe even COL would be willing to take that contract for a 1st

He has the worst possession metrics out of all their active defenseman... Johnson's terrible

I’m sure Malkin’s possession isn’t great either. But that isn’t even a good argument. For instance last game he was on the ice for 18 shots for and 3 against. He had a tremendous game, and he’s been getting better and better. So no, he’s not terrible.

You're wrong. Malkin has a -0.5 relative Corsi, which really isn't bad. Johnson's, however, sits at -6.1. That's a huge difference. His 3.6 GA/60 is also the second most out of all defenseman on the active roster (Ruhwedel's is 3.8) His 2.1 GF/60 is also the third worst among defenseman on the team (Riikola and Ruhwedel bellow him). His expected +/- is by far the worst, sitting at -4.2 with Sheahan next at -1.7. While you might be right that he's been starting to play better, that doesn't excuse the fact that he's been terrible for the majority of the season.

Well of course it’s going to take a while to fit in with a team. But sure trade him while he starts getting good. It’s ridiculous. He’s been solid period. All the advanced stats might be there but his job is to be solid on the back and make a good first pass. That’s what he does.

Actually, those stats are pretty similar to his career numbers, it has nothing to do with being new to the team. There are plenty of players that are solid on the back end that can make a good first pass. No need to hand out an egregious contract to someone if that's the only strength to their game.

Longer term means smaller AAV. It’s not outrageous considering in 2 years he can be sent to Seattle. People look way to much into this and criticize way to much.
