I think this could for work, both now and for the future. Keep Reimer until Gillies is ready to take over. Also, Calgary finally gets the star goalie they need.

CGY trade is possible. Not sure if they would go for it but its at least a very fair trade.

The other 2 are pointless IMO. Tor is not everyone's contract dumping ground. Gustaffson is a ok prospect but he no more then a 5-6 Dman and the 4th in 2018 is worth very little at this point. Cowan, even though not worth very much himself at least comes with the caveat that if you buy him out this season, you get credit to your cap. That is pretty enticing to a team right up against it. I think the leafs would rather just keep Cowan and get the extra cap space. Not to mention that they are weak on the back end. There forward group is crowded as is. If anything they'd still be able to use an extra d-man if it comes to it. Especially a tough rugged guy like Cowan who they don't really have on the back end at the moment.

IMO I wouldn't sign Ladd. Save your money for the RFA signings that are coming. The Flames might want to sign Reimer for themselves, save 3m over Crawford, and keep their assets. If the Hawks asked really nicely, possibly Crawford would wave his NTC. He might demand and get that only a prospect goalie coming back to Chicago. We weaken his new team. Wonder if there is a fit in Toronto for Crawford?

Only signed Ladd for one year specifically to reserve space for Panarin's and TT's extensions after the season. Might as well budget for the money now and make good use of it in the mean time.

Ladd will not sign his next contract for only one year. Even if it means winning another cup. Now is his last shot to cash in big. He won't let that chance slip.

F50marco. I don't see TOR as a cap "dumping ground", But they're not a budget team and if you can get assets for a 1 year cap hit which they can easily afford then if i was a TOR fan...I'd be mad at management if they didn't go get the assets that can help win.

Crawford was outstanding this year and even last year (as long as you keep him away from The House of Blues concerts...). He has a 8 or 10 team NTC...but he could just choose teams that already have goalies set...
