Habs Busy TDL and Draft 2019 trades CAL TOR CAR

Created by: RoadRunner72
Team: 2018-19 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2018
Published: Dec. 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
After deciding to be sellers and re-stocking the left side D with a few strategic moves near the trade deadline, the Habs finish around 22nd overall, and pick late in the top 10. The Carolina pick is closer to #20 overall as the Hurricanes make the playoffs. Two draft selections are Ryan Suzuki (#10) and Arthur Kaliyev (#20)

The Finnish super line will be fun to watch for years to come, and hopefully Valimaki eventually becomes a top 4 D-man on the left side.

they are all good base's for trade's i'll give you that .

i just dont see 1 for 1 on Petry and KK . can the trade happen , for sure but you'd need to put a youth prospect in the mix or an established third line winger to replace KK icetime and a good pick .(then it would work out for all involved today , tomorrow and a couple years from now .

to me i'd scrap the De Haan trade we went after him and backed off because he's paid more then he's worth and is in a similar position to Kris Russel 3-4 years back as an over payed 2nd pair shot blocker .

i like the CGY trade but moving Byron makes no sense nor does Tatar as their value is still increasing and its better to wait and sell high to contenders at the TDL . Danult would work out in CGY i think as good as he is at Center he's a different beast on Wing where he developed a similar style to Byron in his Junior days and was always breaking out on other teams but playing center ice is a lot more responsibility and work but take that away and he'll be awesome for teams looking to add speed and increase the amount of time they are in the OZ .

Shaw's on a Career high Point Streak scoring a point every game since being moved to Drouin-Domi's line so why screw with that he's helping Domi so i wouldnt touch that if you payed me to .

Gallagher and Tatar go UFA the same year so let their chemistry bid and Tatar's worth go up then sell high to a cup team .(you'll get way more and if we choose to move Gallagher his worth will be raised)

i like pretty much everything you're building towards though even who you Drafted i'm just Sure Suzuki brothers would both be starters next season if we got them especially nick .

i'll give you 5/5 because its pretty realistic whether if its what i'd do our not . i'm not gonna get to hung up on the 1 for 1 trade its becoming more common these days so never say never i've learned

if Brook wasnt looking for a roster spot as soon as next year i'd agree but Petry's gotta go for Fleury who our AHL top RD in his rookie season there and Brook who's on team Canada and WHL best D need room to grow and at this point its gonna be at Juulsen's expense if Petry stays

That's totally fair and true, I just think they could get more for Jeff Elitry

that's my reservation to but i thought the same about Subban to even though i love Weber i thought 1 for 1 was steep even though NSH has the re-capture clause on Weber that could screw them the last 4 years of his deal if he retires or leaves the NHL via Buyout .(which he wont )

i'd rather Trade Petry to a team like PHI for a few good pieces and trade TML a young player like Evans and a 1st we get back from the Petry deal .TML avoids a high payout to KK and buys TML a couple more year of low cap .

Agree that in a perfect world, Juulsen, Brook, and Fleury would make up the right side next year behind Weber. I think this year is the time to sell high on Petry although I really like his game, the Habs should be targeting to peak a couple of years from now.

I believe one of those right D prospects should go in a package for a high end left D prospect. Calgary has two of them in Valimaki and Kylington, as well as a pile of good veterans on defense.

Will be interesting to see who comes with offers for Petry if he's available at the TDL. His value is certainly high right now.

Danault is a bulk faceoffs Center and last i heard top 15 in the league in that right i just think he's the answer to that riddle .

honestly if i had to place a bet on who are next LD is i'd say PIT Maatta would be the guy and Danault would be the cost as he'd be the best 3rd line C crosby's played with since Staal and young enough to have staying power to help them avoid a rebuild that seems to be looming .

Maatta's the guy PIT GM that sent a league wide email saying Maatta was available so it just seem more likely then CGY prized LD prospect . (i get the motivation i've tried making that trade with Mete and a 1st and got shot down

I think the Carolina trade is the weakest one from Habs point of view, De Haan is not the ideal fit and that's a lot to give up for him. Danault/Tatar likely have more value in separate trades at some point. Ideally Montreal would be able to grab that number 1-2 left D in free agency (such as Gardiner) but they will have to overpay as many other teams will want him too.

Guys like Danault, Tatar and Petry keep the team competitive and on the playoff bubble, but i'd really rather see them drop to another top 10 draft pick because really they can't compete with Tampa and Toronto for the next couple of years anyway. A first round playoff exit should not be the goal at this point IMO.

i think Maatta is not a guy who fits our system but the more Finn's out there communicating on ice the more special attention they get allowing our guys room to work . if he can help Juulsen find balance on top 4 after Petry's gone then he's worth it .

i'd be targeting Nuutivara in CBJ or Sanheim in PHI if i had my choice of anyone in the league as they are cost efficient and hungry stuck in a log jam so perfect players for Claude Julien who rewards effort regardless of if a 4.6 m dollar player has to be scratched or sent to the minors .

as far as playoffs i'd just trade Petry and Danault then we're gutted Possession wise and although the kids might step up led by Shaw ,Gallagher ,Tatar ,Drouin ,Weber and Domi , there is no way they make the playoffs without Danault who's take 596/1014 of MTL's total faceoffs with a 51-52% win rate (gets higher when he's not taking so many at this pace he'll be top 5 taken in the NHL along side the usual suspects in Crosby ,Oreilly ,Toews ,Koivu and Tavares .

everyone Severely underestimates what Danault brings but i watch his magic in Junior the brief time he was in Moncton he took 2 russians no one did much with and pushed Barbashev and Jaskin to the limit with Jaskin ending up i believe 4th in QMJHL scoring one year being Danault's screen infront of the goal and getting tip ins . (before that Jaskin was the first year russian brute that intimidated all the teenage locals on the team )

on and off the Ice Danaults a leader
