Trades with NSH amp NJ

Created by: Yinz3r
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 16, 2018
Published: Dec. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Bonino, Nick
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
bonino's $4,1 mil for the next 3 years would be off their cap.
NSH
  1. Brassard, Derick
Additional Details:
second line center on a friendly cap hit, hasn't meshed fully with penguins but NSH has a ton of playmakers and scorers he should fit in there.
2.
PIT
  1. Johansson, Marcus ($1,100,000 retained)
Additional Details:
had to retain a little for cap reasons + NJ has the space to retain a little $$ for this year
NJD
  1. Määttä, Olli
Additional Details:
Pettersson has been playing well for the pens, when schultz comes back someone will be the odd man out, i think maatta will be traded for a top 9 winger at the TDL, maatta is a Former shero pick and Johansson is a winger on an expiring deal i see a potential fit there between the two teams

Why would the Pens trade a decent top 4 defender who's locked down to a good deal for a pending UFA?

JR didn't trade sprong for someone who isn't going to play. pens are open to trading him from what i've read. and pens would have more Money freed up after this season

When JR traded for pettersson he said his style resembles Dumo. if he thinks that Pettersson will be another dumo then Maatta won't play out his contract here..

No thanks on both. They aren’t moving Maatta for a pending UFA that they won’t re-sign. And Nashville doesn’t need Brass. He would just be stuck on their team like he is on ours.
Not saying they won’t move Maatta, but they will get more than that

pens aren't getting more than a top 9 Forward for Maatta just depends on who it is

First trade doesn’t accomplish much imo. I think Brassard is just fine. Second trade is good if and only if we re-sign Marcus

bonino is just a better 3rd line C than brass period. brass has barely seen shorthanded time since he's been here. what 3rd line C doesn't kill penalties? getting bonino actually improves the team on faceoffs, penalty kills, ect. something brass doesn't bring to the table. and of course JR is going to resign Pettersson. jr isn't not going to trade for him then leave him unsigned. he's an RFA anyway penguins own his rights if he doesn't want to sign which is unlikely

Then they won’t trade him. It’s that simple lol

Didn't want Bonino at $4.1M when he signed that deal, certainly don't want him at $4.1M now.

They can get a lot more than a 40pt UFA for Maatta.

Pettersson and Riikola can be sent down without needing to clear waivers. If necessary that will happen before they give away and asset like Maatta.

A young top 4 defenseman under contract control for a number of years at a reasonable price will get more than older forward on an expiring contract.
I fully believethe Pens will explore trading Maatta. Pettersson looks solid. Riikola could develop into a decent shutdown player. Probably needs to see top minutes in the AHL once everyone is healthy.
But a Maatta trade will be get a bigger return or be part of a bigger package than that.

can you read? when did i bash maatta ? JR didn't acquire pettersson to sit him when schultz comes back. and Maatta is not fetching a top 6 player in return that's not how it works unless you're trading with Chiarelli

yep JR acquired Pettersson to put him in the minors that makes sense. if JR had full confidence in Maatta or riikola there would be no need to trade for Pettersson in the first place

Can you read? When have I ever said Petterson was gonna sit when Schultz comes back? And you don’t trade players just to trade them. That’s not how it works, unless you’re an idiot on his way out. Maatta can catch more than an injury prone pending UFA. If Maatta was as bad as all the yinzers say, he’d have been traded already just to clear his cap space. GMJR and other gms values Maatta more than the stupid fanbase that bashes Maatta on a consistent basis. Thank god

That's not what I said and your are looking at the situation through blinders. I said that it could happen if necessary. But yes, JR acquired a player that is waiver exempt knowing that going to the minors is an option for him (and Riikola). It is a much better option than dumping Maatta.

A team needs to have more than 6 defensemen in the system. Your "there would be no need to trade for Pettersson in the first place" doesn't hold water.

Since when can't a top-4 D net a top-6 F?

Penguins have a top 10 PK we don’t need a penalty killer we need depth scoring, which brass is better for than bonino. And I’m talking about the Marcus brought in in the trade
