You forgot to include ..... wait there isn't even anyone on LA that I would want that you could include to make that a fair trade.... I'll take Andersen over Quick and Reilly over Doughty, without even bringing up age and contracts and Kapanen.

Sorry to inform you it's 2018. Even if Reilly isn't as good Doughty, the Leafs would be a zillion times better off, trading Reilly for good assets and then taking that cap space, 11m Doughty, and get better players (s) for 11m that Doughty for eight more years, starting in 2019/20.

I know it's easy to make decisions and maybe "what should've been done". Last summer the Kings. trade Doughty to a contender for good young cheap assets. (look at the Karlsson trade). There aren't many teams, especially contending teams, that could've resigned him. Doughty signs as a UFA in summer of 2019.....if the Kings wanted him. I can't see another team that would have paid him 11m.

laugh laugh Good luck signing Matthews and Marner then, You just added about $16.8 million between Doughty and Quick. Besides that trash doesn't get you Doughty let alone Jonathon Quick.

I'll take a run at making this a fair trade.... It would need to occur after Doughty's extension kicks in so that LA can retain on that as I assume they can't already retain on that contract. Kings get a LOT younger (Andersen by 3 years, Reilly by 5 years), Kings get WAY better contracts coming back, and talent-wise this is only a small upgrade for Leafs.

To TOR:
Quick (1m retained = 4.8 Cap hit, similar to Andersen)
Doughty (3m retained = 7.5m cap hit)
Forbert (2.5m)
2020 1st Rounder

To LAK:
Reilly (5m)
Andersen (5m)
Zaitsev (4.5m)
Kapanen (RFA)

I'm curious what Quick's value is these days... Has only played 94 games in last 2.5 seasons and in that time has a 2.47GAA and a .917 SV%. And a lot of injuries...
Seems like a slightly above average goalie with a lot of injury problems. I'll stick with our well above average goalie with little injury problems.

The problem with this trade is not 2018 but 2019. you will have about 17 million dollars, Doughty contract kicks in at 11 million, in cap space and have Mathews, Marner and 8 other players to sign. That sets up for a some team(Arizona) to swoop in and take Matthews away.

Whoever says Morgan over doughty is absolutely wrong. That's a crazy leafs fan thing. He isnt worth doughty dont even think for a second he is better. This deal tho is actually close, TO add a 3rd might be perfect

That's not the point, though. 30yr old Doughty @ $11m + 33yr old Quick at $5.8m <<<<< 25yr old Rielly @ $5m and 30yr old Andersen @ $5m. Leafs would be idiotic to do that trade 2 for 2, let alone toss in Kapanen + your suggested 3rd.
