Toronto would match that in second. 12mil is probably what he would get lol. Also Nashville I dont see them doing it. Pekka is essential to their success still and Saros isnt ready to become no1. You would need to get quality prospect to get them thinking about that deal.

Explnation. Rinnie has NMC/NTC which probably excludes the Isles. Lot of cap going to Nashville for not much. Colorado may not want to take on 9m in cap with sending cap back to Isles. So really the cap available won't be as much as you indicated.
Leafs probably match, even if Matthews signs an offer sheet. No reason why he would sign the offer sheet. Wouldn't that really put the Isles in a cap crunch with Barzel the following summer?

It doesn't matter what the price of the offer sheet is, the Leafs will have to move players before they can offer anything to Matthews. While yes, $12 mil doesn't seem as high as it can be, it's still enough to price the Leafs out of Matthews. The only other thing they could do is firesale whoever they can once he signs an offer sheet in an attempt to match. That means they'll be heavily taken advantage of. It's definitely something to look at.

Colorado definitely can use a defenseman like Leddy and would be able to take on Clutterbuck's years and salary with no problem. They would probably even be able to find him useful in their bottom 6. They have a lot of cap space left with not many key players to extend any time soon. Honestly, I'd expect them to be in the Karlsson sweepstakes which could put a damper on my thoughts here.

Nashville will have to move some pieces to create space for guys like Josi coming up. Aho is still under his ELC and is becoming a good, puck-moving defenseman. Hickey is a steady 2-way defenseman with good control and a very cheap cap hit that the Preds could definitely use in their defense. Rinne would be moved for Saros to officially take over plus they'd be getting Soderstrom, who is a very good European Goalie Prospect. There's enough value there for them to take on the likes of Ladd, who if he produces in the bottom 6, isn't terrible.

Matthews would be matched. He is going to get about that anyways. Rinne is retiring a Pred I believe. The names you have there are not big enough for them to absorb the PR the way PK did for Weber.

The only offer sheet Mathews would sign is with Arizona (as per his pajamas) The max player salary is 20% of the cap or around 16 million. I think Toronto would still match that but it would certainly cost them a key player.

If the Leafs have $26 million in space and match Matthews at $12 million, that gives them $14 million left to re-sign Marner, Gardiner (the 2 obvious targets) and then fit 9/10 other players on the roster. Yes trading Nylander would certainly clear up some space and bring in some future assets, but I'm saying they may not be able to fit entry paid players and league minimum contracts on their roster. Let's say Matthews gets $12 mil and Marner $7 mil, that's $7 mil for Gardiner and then they can't fill out a roster. If you forget about Gardiner, that's $7 mil to sign 10 players, one of them being Sparks who I'm sure the Leafs want to keep. The Leafs need to trade Nylander and Marleau (some how), and STILL probably lose Gardiner and have a terrible team rounding out their roster.

What do you not get about Toronto not having cap space, aside from the Isles being able to create enough space to keep Barzal as well.

What don't you get that they do have the cap space at a 12 million dollar pr year deal?
What don't you get about Matthews isn't going to sign an offer sheet for the same money or less money he would get in Toronto?
what don't you get about the reciprocity that will follow when TOR offer Barzal putting the Isles in a bad situation?
what don't you get that it's a terrible idea and real life isn't NHL 19?

the only team I see offer sheeting Matthews is ARI if it even gets far enough to an offer sheet period.

no its not. it would take 14-15 million dollar offer to price out the leafs or put them into a situation with radical roster restructuring. grow up, this isn't happening, not for the Islanders. absolutely moronic video game garbage.
