Point experiment

Created by: ColbyStamkosfan
Team: 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 10, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If the Callahan value is low we can just add another prospect. Also, if Foote is slipping up we can rotate in Coburn. This is just a thought experiment I had, I'm not entirely sure this is realistic.

Trades
TBL
  1. van Riemsdyk, Trevor
Additional Details:
TVR is a good defenseman who can help Tampa in the short term. This is especially true if some pieces in their system are not ready to come up.
CAR
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. Stephens, Mitchell
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (TBL)
  4. 2021 3rd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Carolina takes this at such a low price because it's one year. Stephens is a good piece with upside and the picks should help compensate for TVR.

As a TB fan, love the deal and also think it is fair on both sides. Stephen is a very good prospect but is worth giving up to dump Callahans contract. Canes have the space and are getting a fair return.

As Tampa fan I would do this tomorrow.. TVR is needed for 2019/2020 season with Stralman Colburn and Giardi gone .. if I Carolina .. I ask for Gourde or Miller instead of draft picks .. Tampa would prefer this also cap wise

If Miller goes to Carolina, why not keep the second in the trade and get Faulk back as well? That D is far too young to win a cup. You'll need to sign Stralman or get Faulk.

Maybe .. but D is fine with Cernek's play this year .. he 2nd pairing .. 3rd D would be TVR and Foote/Koeckkeck .. only question would be Foote .. their #1 from 2017 .. Tampa stacked on D also.. Faulk would be insurance though.. and would enable us to trade Sergcheck

Sergachev should stay put IMO. He's a huge part of the future. You have enough scoring next year even without Miller, so why not beef up the D? I'd give Foote another year to develop and Faulk's contract would be up just in time. I'm a bigger fan personally of signing Stralman, but if he wants money, you can't give him it and Carolina can retain on Faulk. Nobody is sneezing at a Hedman-Faulk McDonagh-Cernak Coburn/TVR-Sergachev D lineup. That's stacked. The next year you can still have Hedman, Sergachev, McDonagh, Cernak, and Foote + the space to sign another D. I think that Tampa will be contending for the foreseeable future.

Sergachev has to have a good playoffs after some disappointment last year playoffs and "so so" year so far this year. If not, I would look to move him before RFA year. For his potential, he should fetch 1 to 3 good young players/picks. In this scenario you keep Stralman

Yes, Foote may or may not be ready and this is a good insurance. I would love to bring Stralman back for 1-2 years at a decent salary. However, Stralman going to get a three year contract at around his salary or more. This will put him out of our reach.

Giving up 2 top 6 forwards in their prime both 50-60+ point scorers on good contracts? Tampa says absolutely not. TVR is not a good enough return at all. Callahan is only on for one more year after this one. Tampa only needs to rid of Gourde/Callahan/Girardi/Coburn and they will have plenty of cap this off season.

Uh Forest .. Gourde OR Miller .. and you should do it .. need to sign Point this off season and dont have cap space if Callhan and everyone still here. Again .. at least 1 of top 9 forwards should go and let 3 D go and get back 1 in trade. EASY
