I think Colorado isn't giving up enough. Barrie is their best piece but Varlamov is expensive for what he's proven and Iginla is just about finished in the NHL. He might be done after this contract. The Pit and Cgy trades seem pointless also. Basically all of this was done to give Col and Cgy new goalies. If CGY wants Fleury/Varlamov they can just trade for him straight up. No need to trade half their defence core.

I don't think Fleury will waive his NTC to play in Calgary. He might to play for his childhood idol Patrick Roy.

I think your take that Colorado isn't giving up enough is interesting . Not what I expected to hear at least.

exactly what I thought. Brodie is an underrated dman in the shadow of gio, similarly to the way Gio was in the shadow of bouwmeester and Regehr for a while. Why would Col bother with trading their veteran starter to get a different vet starter? of course three way trades are very complicated, part of the reason why they never happen.

At the end of the day, its all relative you can think all you want but only Fleury will know where he wants to play so its moot for us to say where or where he will not want to play.

Dont misunderstand my post though, i'm not saying its a slap in the face trade offer. Just that considering all areas of the trade including the teams cap situation, the players remaining years/Contract, etc, i think Colorado would have to add or even possibly subtract and add a different piece.

If you take out the worst component of each deal, the trade value becomes clearer:

      Col - Remove Iginla
      Varlamov @ 5.9m for 3 years
Barrie RFA- est @ 6.25M for 5 years
      2nd round pick
      Total ~12M

      Pitt - Remove Schultz
      Maata @ 4M for 6 years
      Fleury @ 5.75M for 3 years
      Total ~10M

      CGY - Remove Wideman
      Brodie @ 4.65M for 3 years
      Hamilton @ 5.75M for 5 years
      F Hamilton - Worth nothing
      3rd round pick
      Total ~10M

Too much for CGY to give up IMO. Now that i'm looking at it, Pitts isn't giving enough either. I'd say Pit and Col are closer in value but CGY doesn't need to lose 2 of their best defensemen just to add a goalie. Might as well just add Reimer in free agency.

That's really what I expected to hear. I honestly tried to do too much here, incorporating the Barrie rumors and throwing in Iginla in a sentimental but sensible addition.

Never took it that way. All positive thoughts. Thanks for giving them.

why would the Avs trade for Bickell? Stuart is probably LTIR with his back, they just gave their division rival free money taking Bickell off their hands.
Other than that, its pretty interesting trades

I didn't know that about Stuart. Knowing that I wouldn't have to find a way to dump his salary for a forward.

      Thanks!
