Fair deal for both the Oilers and Blues?

Created by: alwaysnextyear

Description
The Oil get their big, young, cost-controlled, play-in-all-situations RHD. The Blues re-sign Shatty and use the 4th pick to draft Tkachuk. Does this make sense for both teams? Fair deal or does one team need to throw in a little extra?

Not very realistic for blues. He is going to be a very good d man for a very long time, makes more sense for them to trade Shattenkirk.

if the blues sign Shattenkirk and let Backes walk that seems like a reasonably fair deal. Only one year under the belt for Parayko tho, might be a bit of a risk on the oilers end.

Wish you were right. Doubt they move him. More than likely Shattenkirk is the one they deal due to pending UFA status.

STL would devoid not to take that deal. Porayko is a solid youngster with very decent potential but 4th overall will get you a future 1st liner player/top pairing defensemen. In terms of value, you have to make that trade if it were offered. Which it won't be so we're arguing for nothing.

Seems like a lot to give up, # 4 overall, when you can trade down and still get one of the top Dmen in the draft, and still sign UFA Dman and more for Parakyo money. Even if that big UFA signing is next year.

Thanks for all the feedback. I was just curious what people felt was fair value on this one. Hitchcock seems to think the kid is the second coming of Chris Pronger (sans the wife), and the opportunity for the Blues to grab Tkachuk at the draft would be enticing. Of course the deal only makes sense if St. Louis signs Shattenkirk to an extension.

He's good don't get me wrong but will he be a top pairing dman who puts up 40-50 points a season and plays 25 mins a night? Possibly but it sure isn't a fact just yet. He plays on one of the best teams in the league. You have to be conservative with your overestimation of players on teams like that. I'd stick with the highly touted forward projected at that pick who more then likely will succeed to be a first line player.
