So essentially, Duchene and Barrie for Faulk and Kreider? I'd keep Barrie and Duchene personally. Even if you wouldn't though, there's not really an upgrade here. Your getting a little better in one position and less in another while saving maybe a couple mil. This trade is what they call "Making a trade for the sake of making a trade". NHL Gm's don't usually do this. Especially not with star players.

I'm not sure the rangers are looking to add salary like this deal now, rangers need cheap young talent, which b skej has in bunches. I dont think they would ADD kreider to that mix. This just doesn't make sense from their POV.

Rangers fan here, totally agree. Ck and a cheap young dman is too much. Yes Barrie is a 30-40 point dman, but Skjei could turn out to be a solid 30 point dman as well as CK having 30 goal potential. For this to occur, Duchene would have to somehow be involved.

I'd trade Kreider but not Skjei. I love Barrie and want him on the Rangers but we can't afford to trade a player like SKjei unless we're getting a similar player back.

Barrie is a 50 point defenseman.

For comparison, Yandle returned: Duclair, a 1st, a 2nd, and a solid depth defenseman in Moore. Barrie is better and younger than Yandle, so this trade illustrates what type of return is needed. It is actually less than what Yandle got. I'm sure the Avs could throw in someone like Geertsen if needed.

Well right, it's not an upgrade, it's a shuffle. The Avs get bigger, which Roy would like, and more well-rounded. The long term D core can play two-ways now. If the Avs want to shake up the core, they could do worse.

Would this even help Rangers? Unless they signed a top line or 6 winger like Luc,Okposo or even Boedker...

seems like it boils down to Barrie and duchene for faulk and krieder. It also seems like making a trade just to make a trade. duchene has more impact than krieder and Faulk and Barrie are fairly equal. doesnt make sense

I don't get this one. Big downgrade at forward going to Kreider, reasonable upgrade at D going to Faulk. But you overpaid for Faulk IMO and I cant quite piece together if this actually makes the Avs better or not.

Yandle also came 50% salary retained on a great deal. Give us Barrie at $2.6m if you want to make the Yandle comparison.

I agree with you but with that said there are also other factors as well. Barrie is a pending RFA where as Yandle a pending UFA in a year's time. (at the time). The dynamics of that trade give the framework for a possible Barrie trade but not an exact idea just yet. The comparison although seemingly similar have some pretty different variables that make it its own special case.
