Aberg for Kloos

Created by: TanSor
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 16, 2019
Published: Jan. 16, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What a trade for Fenton. Cheap, fast, RIGHT SHOT goal scorer who could flourish with a change in scenery.

Some interesting bits of info:

Fenton drafted Aberg when he was in NSH.

Fenton when he drafted Aberg: ”He’s an offensive guy, he’s savvy w the puck & he’s patient w the puck. That’s hard to find in this new hurry-up style we play. It seems like when he has the puck, he takes the extra time to make the right play & he has a goal scorer’s look.”

Aberg expected to play tomorrow.

Honestly, Kloos has never really had a great shot on the Wild. I think he's only played 1 NHL game in his career (I could be wrong on that), and he's actually been pretty good in Iowa. I still think Anaheim was fleeced here, but Kloos could be a decent 4C option. The Wild definitely got what we needed out of this trade, though.

Yes. The only reason that why ANA would do that trade is that Åberg wasn't a part of their plans in the future, I think. Maybe he wanted his next contract to be too big - for a waiver claim, that is.

That's just it, all he is a waiver claim. He even passed though waivers for ANA a week after he was claimed. He was probably headed back to waivers after being in the pressbox the last 10 days.

This is the sort of trade that simply confounds fans. Aside from being the team's second-best scorer, Aberg is fast and has impressive stick-handling skills. He can play both RW and LW, and as you might have seen in last night's game, he will be a dangerous asset on the power play (even if you guys didn't score on it). He couldn't have been cheaper and should have been in the team's future plans. On the other side, the Ducks have Getzlaf, Henrique, Kesler and Rowney at center and Sam Steel and Kalle Kossila in San Diego (among other prospects), so I don't see the need for another center. A mystery.

Aberg was a noticeable upgrade for our PP. One of the many things about the Wild that has driven me nuts for years is the fact nobody ever one-times the puck on the PP. That finally changed this year with Dumba constantly bombing one-timers, but came to an end with his injury. Aberg added that element once again and it was very refreshing. I think if he's put with Granlund he could score a ton of goals. Small sample size but I really liked his first game for us.
