NYR Swap

Created by: ClockReads2113
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 15, 2019
Published: Jan. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both players are struggling and really need a change of scenery.

NYR gets 2+ younger and have control of Bura as he's a RFA this summer. They'll also save $1M. They have room in top 6 to really get the best out of Bura's speed, skill, and vision.

Caps get another Russian. They get slightly older and more expensive but seems worth the gamble. Vlad has 1 more year after this one, which is a bonus.

Caps are $450k over the cap but can fix that in a lot of ways.

It's a valid proposal, but honestly I don't know that I'd consider Vlad to be struggling. Obviously he isn't putting up the points that he was with Stamkos and Kucherov, but he's still been pretty solid (he started the year a little shaky). IMO he's the Rangers' best penalty killer by far

if caps could swing it, it would prob be pretty good. Could they put namestnikov in a position to succeed tho? He prob would be a 3rd liner. Would this be sufficient to get enough production out of him? Maybe...maybe not...or maybe...or.....maybe not (period). Orrrrrrrr maybe it would be...unless it wouldnt be

Understandable. For some reason I thought he was a healthy scratch this season but looks like he's played almost all the games. The reason I though to this is someone said he's deleted all of his New York Rangers pictures off of his Instagram, so I thought maybe he was pissed about the scratches or upset at the team and maybe would want a change of scenery.

He was scratched early in the season, but not a big deal.
He might be available, not sure if its a lateral deal like this, at this point in the season. Not a horrible proposal, though. I like burka. Spooner, Names, Strome... They arent opposed to making deals for these types of players

What happens in 6 months when you need to resign Vrana? All other expiring contracts are basically at league minimum, so those roster spots need to be replaced with at least league minimum... The cap will probably go up a little but bringing in this contract puts you in a BAD spot...

You free up $5.25M in not re-signing Con, Jaskin, DSP, Orpik, or Dowd. And the cap will go up another $3M. So $8M to signed Vrana, Djoos, and Copley. Very doable.

And what money are you using to refill the roster spots opened by letting Connolly, Jaskin, DSP, Orpik, and Dowd walk? It's not like you drop 5 guys and have that $ to give to one other guy. You still need 5 guys there.

It would definitely be close but you replace them with guys from Hershey that are ready to make the jump that have cheap contracts: Babrer, Gersich, Walker, O'Brien, Siegenthaler.

So that knocked you down to $4.4M in space to give raises to Vrana, Djoos and Copley ($6.5M total to resign all three, including their current hits as available)... while using a handful of basically untested/inexperienced guys as NHL roster filler. I am just saying that $4M for Namestnikov is not worth the headache.

It is. Those guys are ready. If not you can make room in season and trade for something.
