Realistic Barzal Trade

Description
With all the Barzal posts that have been made after the ASG (and yes, I know they're mostly just for fun) I feel obliged to explain why the Penguins don't need him. The first reason is the asking price. Since the Islanders are currently in first place, they're not going to take a package of picks. The only player on the Pens roster that they would likely be interested in is Guentzel since he's young and on a similar trajectory as Barzal. Taking a look at some of their stats, there's a lot of similarities.

Guentzel: 47 points, 24 goals, 8.1 relative Corsi, and 54.8 FF%
Barzal: 45 points, 14 goals, 7.1 relative Corsi, and 53.0 FF%

The only difference is the goals total, which shouldn't come as a surprise since Guentzel has Crosby creating opportunities for him. Theoretically, if Barzal was swapped out for Guentzel in the 3-on-3 tournament you could expect the same results.

You can add whatever you think is necessary to balance out the value, and let me know in the poll below if you would still want to make that trade from the Penguins perspective.

So you created a team suggesting that Barzal on the pens would be good and then said it won't work.

Just log off the internet.

I'll create a team that has an alien, george washington and jesus christ on the sabres and then tell everyone who comments that it wouldn't really be worth it and to read the description.

I literally never said Barzal on the Pens would end well. My only point (which you've entirely missed) is that the Penguins are better with their current roster than they would be with Barzal minus everyone included in the trade.

Lmao a winger who made his career being slotted next to Crosby for a young, franchise center. So terrible for NYI

The trade was never meant to be close, it's just a starting point to negotiations. Think about the package you would need to send him to Pittsburgh. That would cripple the Pens, would it not?

IMO the Pens don't even have the RIGHT assets for Barzal. It would have to be absolutely ridiculous. But to suggest Guentzel is your main piece is a non-starter right there. Someone like Eichel/Keller/Pettersson gets a true conversation going

I mean, if anything everyone (including yourself) willingly wasted their time when they decided to comment. I'm just the guy that made the post you're obsessed with.

Honestly, you're right. Crosby and Malkin are untouchable so the main piece has to be Guentzel. I wasn't really expecting the majority of the response to be from non-Pens fans, though. Since our fanbase is obsessed with Barzal ATM I just wanted to point out that any trade for him would absolutely gut the roster, regardless of whether it's realistic or not.

He’s more than a product of Crosby

obviously Barzal isn't being traded barring an immense overpay, and obviously Guentzel wouldn't be traded except for a few select scenarios. So of course it wouldn't happen. Both players are guys these teams are gonna build around, not trade away.

Both sides would say heck no, both are very good young players. Any person who really thought it was realistic to get barzal when the islanders are leading the division(after losing Tavares) was kidding themselves.

I could honestly argue against trading Barzal for Crosby straight up. I read the description, your logic is flawed and this isn't even remotely close

you have no logic if you would seriously argue that, talk about being a blind fan lol.

Are you kidding me? How about you take into account the contract, age, and similar point production going into the future?

Crosby is 10 years older, makes 10x as much $ and is locked up until he's 37 years old. How about you take YOUR blinders off. It's obvious who you want on your team for the next decade.

The only logical reason the Islanders would say no to the trade is age. Everything else is in Crosby’s favor. Would be dumb of both teams to even entertain the idea of them being traded

for the next decade it depends on how much you weight years 6-10 of that versus years 1-5. Top 2 player in the league for probably the first two or three years of it, solid player the couple of years after, and then likely either retired or still pretty decent for years 6-10. Versus a good but not top 10 the first few years, after that might be top 10 the following 6 or 7 years.

Barring injury the better player the next 3 or more years is easily Crosby(around which point Barzal would be making Crosby contract money negating that advantage), after that they might be about equal for a year or two, and then after that barzal would be better. For a team that is trying to win now only an idiot would take Barzal(no offense to him he is a very good player but not the best in the world), for a team that isn't gonna compete for a cup in the next five years the choice would be Barzal.
