It's as if you're not even trying to prove the Blues trade is fair (which it's not)
All the stats you brought up to defend Kempny are useless.
Now I'll wait for you to misinterpret what I said and call me out for saying Kempny is bad
No worries. I thought Kempny was bad until pretty recently, myself. I couldn't believe that someone who didn't make the NHL until he was 26 years old could be anything other than a product of teammates and a good system. But I think some guys in the minors actually keep working on their positioning, and on little skills like blocking shots, and delivering clean hits. Kempny's one of Washington's more popular players because I think other fans understood his level of competitiveness and effort before I did. I"m sure Schenn is the same in STL, and trading him is not a popular idea.
Edit: if you want stats, I think everyone here knows how to look them up. His Corsi and XGF% are +2.52 and +1.53 above teammates. His even strength points are tied with the Blues' best current left shot defenseman. How would you go about showing that Kempny is a top four guy that the Caps rely on to keep them in every game?
I think his consistently high shots blocked numbers and his consistently high plus minus are exaclty where you see his value. Some guys, you see those numbers go up and down, but Kempny's always blocking shots, and in his shifts, his teams always outscore opponents, even when his team was last year's Hawks, for most of a really rough season. Am I trying to defend a trade? That depends.... Do I think the Caps need Brayden Schenn at 5.25M more than they need Michal Kempny at 2.5M? Hmmm....
