3 WAY DEAL OTT-CBJ-NYI

Created by: TkachukNorris79
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2019
Published: Feb. 1, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This trade works for all teams, I think. NYI gets the intel that Duchene would stay in CBJ for 8x8. Straight swap with Panarin as chances of keeping Duchene are higher.

NYI are they buyers, giving up futures for a star player. Dobson is clearly the main piece. Ho-Sang probably holds the value of a mid 2nd round.

CBJ swaps star for star, Duchene for Panarin. Basically the same age, Panarin is the better point producer but Duchene is a center and can also play the wing well if necessary. They're gonna get similar cap hits, plus CBJ has been linked to Duchene before. CBJ also gets Dzingel (Abramov/2020 2nd), which comes with the chemistry with Duchene.

Ottawa gets plenty of futures. Tried something similar to the first Duchene trade.

One of Dobson, Wilde or Wahlstrom need to be involved or it doesn't make sense for Ottawa imo.

They are getting NYI first, and you have Ho-Sang coming the other way.

But that's not enough if Ottawa gives up Both Zinger and Dutch. We could get a 1st for Zinger and a 1st ++ for Dutch.

That 1st round pick will most likely be a mid 20s.

Maybe, but this draft is stacked so you aren't really losing out on much.

"this draft is stacked" comes up at every draft. That isn't a factor in trades. The pick will likely be mid 20's. If Panarin is signing in NY, Dobson/Wilde/Wahlstrom will be involved. Vegas gave up Suzuki for Pacioretty. Panarin>>>Patches.

This not very good for the Jackets. They would be better off trading Panarin directly to NYI and get the package being sent to Ottawa and try to sign one or both of Duchene and Dzingel as free agents.

I guess, but you're pushing for a cup run, you can't afford to lose Panarin for futures and drastically decrease your teams' chances at making the playoffs. That'd be crazier than STL dealing Stasny at the deadline, and that didn't work too well for them (we'll see how Bokk pans out but they missed the playoffs)

tbh, we won't be certain until 2-3 year. The 2016 NHL draft was supposed to be a deeper draft than 2015's. In the end, it turns out the 2015 draft was better than the 2016's (at least for now). Also the 2017 draft wasn't supposed to be a very good draft, yet this draft has been better than expected (Heiskanen, Pettersson, Frost, Primeau, Romanov, Batherson, Formenton, DiPietro, Comtois, Luukkonen).
