Trading Monahan, Frolik to address weaknesses

Created by: Pine_Tree
Team: 2016-17 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 22, 2016
Published: May 22, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CBJ-CGY: Columbus gets a #1 centre and some cost-controlled assets. Calgary gets a goalie and a Finn. Sucks to see Monahan go, but Bennett's potential is incredible and he shouldn't be on the third line for another season. Calgary can afford the cap dump if Smid retires.
PHI-CGY: Philadelphia can compete sooner rather than later, as shown this year. Getting two quality NHL players for a reasonable price is certainly something they'd enjoy. Once again Calgary would take cap back to balance the books but Umberger's hit would disappear next year. Lindblom looks like he may have been a late round steal, and Stolarz is a victim of goaltender depth with Philly signing Lyon, but still a quality prospect who can handle backup duty next season.
NYR-CGY: Rangers shore up the d for one year and get a long-shot prospect for a 6th. Calgary gets some cap space.

What the heck is that CBJ deal. The second highest paid goalie in the league and a bit better than average at best and Clarkson? who might be worst value in the NHL and Calgary three f high end prospects.

Try this. Keep all your assets. Sign UFA Reimer for 3.475 for 3 years (you save 4m a year with the same goal tending, Sign me to play RW at 725,000 a year. Then take the remaining 4.7m and get a real RWer.

Are you taking a 2-way contract?

Yeah, that CBJ deal would have Treliving fired immediately. That's more like a Benning move.

No way I'm taking a 2 way contract. Though I expect "not to be dressed" for about 82 regular season games, the food at the Saddledome is pretty good, so when I'm in the press box...I least I'll be fed. Also I hope to couch surf at my aunt's house, so I'll be saving in living expenses.

Its rare when the posters team is the one getting screwed. You still managed. Appreciate the analysis regardless but that is a god awful trade with CLB. Sure they have some cap space, doesn't mean they need to take on 12m of not so good contract in the process. this is incredibly counter intuitive.

People need to chillax on the over hype every year of the draft prospects. Statistics show that all 3 probably will never score more then 40G and/or 80Pts in their highest possible production..... There is as much data that shows they might be 60-70 point guys at best. And thats not a bad thing at all, Im just saying if you give up Monahan in the process, is it really worth it?

hal, just don't take a NMC, maybe you'll get picked up by Vegas? =p

60-70 points would have lead the Wild in points since 2009-10 season. But that is a horrible trade.

Why do you think I'll staying at my aunt's in Calgary. I'm gotta save for my retirement. And Vegas, the gambling, all night drinking, the show girls and the legalized brothels outta town, I'll be broke in a week and my wife in Ontario will know where the money all went.

Yeah, the Rangers take that if you take back Glass and Staal.

I sure as hell hope Brad Treliving isn't as brain-dead as you. There's no way in hell they trade away their #1 C & future captain for some expensive washed-up goalie (when we have Jon Gillies ready in 2-3 years) David Clarkson (very expensive 4th liner with a no movement clause) and Puljujärvi (he's gunna be a star but c'mon). Bennett is in no way ready to play 1st line C, move him to Backlunds LW or let him center the 2nd line with Backs on the 3rd. There's advantages to having all this young talent, you don't just trade it all away. *mic drop* I'm out.
