Between mathews marner and sparks you are about 1.5m high then move brown and save anther 1.3m. It puts us close, will either be shorter term on M&M to save money or move zaitsev and sign someone cheaper.

You can't sign Matthews and Marner at 22M and keep Kapanen, that much was clear. But there won't be 8 year contracts in any case. More like 20M AAV for both. Even so, I don't see Kapanen fitting unless, like Jamiepo said, some of these players are moved.

So, what's the problem? If players are signed to fair contracts...and you're over the cap, you just have to trade player, and you can get reasonable value in return. It's really not a problem.

I'm not sure if you read my comment properly. I'm saying Matthews and Marner will likely end up at 20M AAV combined. Kapanen will be hard to fit in that case, unless a player like Zaitsev is moved. You can just try it out, this site is made for that.

Zaitsev is definitely gone in the off season. The only reason they don't try now is because he is a right hand shot. I love Marleau but his cap hit for his production and age is terrible. It made sense when they signed it as they had lots of cap room but he wanted that 3rd year. There is likely no way he waives his no move clause, but you can always dream. It sucks to have to move out a good young player for the last year of Marleau's career.

You might be able to get Kappy under $3 million on the two year deal, since it is his first good year. It would be smart to sign Kappy and Johnsson to 1-2 year deals to keep their cap hits down a bit as well and hope the cap really goes up once Seattle comes.
