You aren't getting Marner that cheap. He will be 10.5-11m over 8 years.

Matthews leaves in 5 Year is what I see lol. Matthews for 10.5M for 4 Year would have been better.

I would say you are high on term and money for kappy and low on money high on term for Johnsson. Look for them to be on 1 year deals or traded.

Just because he signed a 5 year deal doesn't mean he is leaving.. It made sense for both teams. The only major player to leave after their first deal after ELC was Tavares and he came to the Leafs. Crosby signed for 5 years and then re-signed after.

If the Leafs are competitive in 5 years he will stay.

A lot depends on the next few months, but that would be the expensive scenario. He is a winger who plays with JT and coincidentally is having a breakout year. Would be shocked if he signed for more than 10

That was the entire idea of why he did that is so he can be a UFA firs year he is eligible.

2nd year eligible, a 4 year deal would walk him straight to ufa.

Not sure you pay Marner that much then because in terms of skill level Marner is still in the same class as Nylander and Nylander could still end up being the better player in the long run. If it wasen't for the contract dispute Nylander would prob be putting up similar numbers to Marner this year. Both are great wingers but Nylander def has the edge in raw skill including puck handling skills, smooth skating ability, and wrist shot. Marner gets the edge in playmaking ability and defensive play but even still 10.5-11 mill seems too high for him and his predictability has actually hurt the Leafs Powerplay this season.

Yes he is... but it’s not just age, 7 years pro also brings him to ufa.

27 or 7 years pro. He will hit the latter with a 4 year extension. Leafs bought 1 year of ufa.

He sure did... leafs are having zero luck with rfa’s. Feel bad for Tavares, the guy leaves 2m on the table to come play here only to watch a bunch of greedy kids try to take whatever they can get.

It is so he can make more money, not for the purpose of leaving. In 5 years he will re-sign with the Leafs again for a massive deal. Small haircut now for a huge payday later. Matthews is a career leaf 100%
