Comment? Cap is too high, roster isn't full. If Jensen is a desirable UFA, he gets more than 2m

I'm not trying to start an argument and as an outside observer. I think you might have to add something or ask for less in return Zaitsev, I do think he is a good player but his cap hit combined with the length and the fact that he's 27 is just a bit much for a teams interested in him. This is just an observation/opinion and I'm sure some Leafs fans will argue and give a million reasons why my observation/opinion is wrong. But you don't have to because as an outside observer I don't care, the title politely asked for comments.

Normally I’m on here telling people Kapanen gets more, but if you’re going walk him to ufa as soon as possible, that cap number should be lower. I think that’s fair for a 2-3 year deal though

You're spot on in your observation. Except he's a really bad top 4 or an above average bottom pairing guy, which is why the contract is so tough to move. They'll have to either retain or attach an asset to get rid of him, but there's def teams out there looking for a guy like him (just not his contract). The GM that signed him is currently a GM so we'll see what happens there.

You're consistently wrong in your assumption that Kappy is getting that much. He won't be over 3mil, 110%. A 2-3 yr deal @ 2.5mil (give or take 200k) is where hell be. AJ is under 2mil all day.

Also let's pray to god Ron isn't coming back, I think the leafs will/are looking at Jensen but apparently he's trying to resign in DET which is weird to me.

And I’m sure you thought Matthews was going to take a Tavares contract.

Reinhart is the best recent comparable to Kapanen. 3.75 for 2 years. Caps gone up. 2 years 4 mill is about right.

No, actually I didn't think that Matthews was going to *take* JT's contract. I have no issues with AM34's deal and I knew that was coming because it was talked about nearly 2 weeks before.

The fact you think Reinhart and Kap are comps kinda explains.

Reinhart before signing the deal: 249GP 60G 75A 135P 0.54 P/GP
Kapanen on pace after this year: 137GP 31G 26A 57P 0.42 P/GP

That's not even taking into account Kap playing with Matthews either. haha

From what I've seen I'd say he is a top 4 Dman but I don't see him play as much as you and everybody looks good against the Wings. You said your old GM and I think the Islanders would be a good fit for both of them. They still have work to do and the length of Zaitsev's contract would be a benefit to them.

Their contract years are shaping up to be identical. That’s mostly what matters coming off entry deals

If the cap goes up 3-5m this year and another 3-5m the year after...is Zaitzevs contract still bad?
