Interesting move. At first I was like : "Pfff come on." but the more I think about it, it's interesting.

ANA are getting a fairly high chance to draft Hughes, COL gets important pieces for a long cup run. The only thing I'm thinking is, Getzlaf is very slow and aging, but still he'd be nice on a 2nd or 3rd line, especially with 4M$ retained.

I think it does make sense if ANA is looking to tank another year or 2 while the young forwards work their way up the line-up. I am not someone who particularly subscribes to the opinion that such an approach is necessary to get ANA back on their feet. However, more importantly, I don't think the deal really addresses COL needs of a #1 GT.

No way Anaheim does this. Jack Hughes isn't guaranteed, and even if he was, there's no guarantee that he is the caliber of Auston Matthews at the NHL level, which is what you would need to trade all this away.

Getlzaf is still a legitimate #1 Center in the league (although he would be 2nd in COL because MacKinnon is amazing). He led the league in assists per game last season, and is leading the team in points this year. His totals are only low because the team around him is so bad. Easily worth a 3-5 overall pick since he has term. (Assuming he waives his NMC, which he has said he won't).
Silfverberg alone would get you at least a mid-1st round pick this year, because he's a proven playoff performer (0.89 P/GP in the last 4 years) when he has a good team around him. Some comparables: (1) Kane got a 1st, 4th, and a prospect, (2) Tatar got a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, (3) Nash got a 1st, 7th, and a few players. Again, he might not compare to their point totals this year, but he has in the past on better teams.
Folwer also gets you at least a top 5 pick. He is a guaranteed top pairing defenseman for the next 8 years, which you can't say about a top 5 pick, as they may never amount to 1st-line caliber. Shattenkirk got a 1st, 2nd, and prospect when he was traded.

To make this fair, you either need to take out Getlzaf or Fowler, and/or add in more picks/prospects. Or, to make it less risky for both sides, you could put a contingency that says if the pick isn't 1st overall and Hughes doesn't score 50+ points in his first year, then the Ducks get another 1st from Colorado as well as a few later round picks.

Very well reasoned.
