The Devil's would never retain salary and give up a second for a player whose career high is 9 goals and 29 pts in his rookie season. Give us Tanner Pearson straight up, and you got yourselves a deal.

He had 29 last year too. I think he’d be better than Severson. You’d rather have a forward that gets 10 more points and is 2 years older?

from a penguins perspective. it would make more sense to give up Pearson as well, Johnson should not be a top 4 defenseman. However if the Pens give up Pearson they still need salary retained on Johansson I think. But since the devils aren't competing this year and have lots of cap space I wouldn't imagine that would be an issue.

The Devils need goals. I'll take 8 goals over 1 goal for this season, and career high 24 vs 9 any day of the week. Same amount of games, 3 times the goals.

Not worth a trade with all the complainers in the comments. Johansson isnt worth it to have possible stipulations against us. Hopefully GM JR knows this

Penguins aren't retaining any salary and we don't want a guy with injury issues either. Devil's need a lot more than just goals and if goals are their problem, wait till Taylor Hall demands a trade or refuses to resign an extension.

I think he meant the devils retain 1mil on Johansson, not that the penguins retain salary. It would make zero sense to say the pens retain salary when I just said they need more cap room.

You’re comparing points for a forward that mostly plays with Malkin and Kessel vs a dman that mostly plays with Oleksiak or Riikola. Pearson also starts in the offensive zone more than Maatta. I don’t think you’re getting a goal scorer from a rental, and Pearson certainly isn’t a “goal scorer”

I don't disagree. but that's just what I would want instead.

thought so, glad I interpreted it correctly. I think both sides would win with a deal like that. Pens get a rental for this season(who fits in cap), Devils get a winger who can score alittle bit who is under control for a couple seasons.

Agreed, even if the Devils only get 15 goals out of him, its not like we don't have the cap room haha.
