No thanks to Zaitsev and that contract, especially if we're including Jensen.

For what it's worth, as a Wings fan I don't understand why you guys would trade for LGD. He's a solid player but you're slightly upgrading the 4th line and further complicating your cap situation, which doesn't make sense to me.

Zaitsev on every other team other than Detroit is GOOD! He is played on bad position to not succeed. He plays like 7th D with Gardiner and plays like 3-4 guy without him. Its just that. Once he is out, he would be for some surprisingly great, for me it would be "told ya" moment. He is good trust me. He just needs a defenceman besides him not scared lost forward on D in Gardiner..

LGD is fave of Babcocks and tough guy that would be an upgrade over Pär Lindholm.

The Wings are built on players with "that contract" and Zaitsev would be the best of the bunch.

Don't disagree that Zaitsev isn't a bad defenseman, he just doesn't line up with our window to compete; by the time the Wings will be actually contending he'll probably be 30. We're trying to make space for a couple of our defensive prospects as it is, Zaitsev would just be adding to the logjam. Maybe if Daley or Ericsson was going the other way, but I don't think Toronto would want that.

If dealing a 4th line centre upgrades your blue line, you do it. Everytime.
The road to contention is filled with upgrades.
