As a Canucks fan i woild say yes Brown makes up for Zaitsev

Leafs would be dumb to give up that much just to get Zaitsev off the cap.
They'd also be dumb to give Marner only a 4 year deal.
They'd also be dumb to give Kapanen over $3M.
Should I go on with the dumbness here?

I think Stecher is the best player in this trade. Not sure why the Canucks would trade him (not to mention a 3rd round pick) for two players who are over paid. Leafs are going to need to sell some players. Unless it's someone like Kapenen or Nylander, I don't think they're going to get a premium on them.

We'll see this offseason, he shouldn't gets any more term than Matthews in order to keep his cap hit down. We know his agent is an ass hole. Kapanen is tied for 5th on the leafs in scoring with Kadri who makes 4.5 million a season. He should make more since he's a center so I don't think its unreasonable to think Kapanen would get something around 3 million. Its also not just a move to get Zaitsev off the cap, Browns contract has to go as well and Borgman or Rosen look to be the odd man out on the defensive core.
