You really see WPG making a play for just Dzingel? I think Chevy is big game hunting. They need a top C and Duchene is by far the best centre available.
Dzingel isn't really a driver, but if he plays with a speedy, creative centre, he's a 30/30/60 guy (been evident ever since he's played with Duchene)
I think big game hunting this year is beyond stupid. The entire West's rolling average of xGF% looks like a big see-saw. Basically meaning that no single team has actually been dominant on paper for long periods of time. You rewind it back to last year, and there was a clear hierarchy. Teams like Winnipeg, and Nashville were heavily favored in every single game they played in. Neither of those teams is doing that this year.
I'm a big believer, you shouldn't be getting rentals if you are not a favorite for the Stanley cup. (Don't get me started on Edmonton and Dallas rental posts.) As it is, I'm fairly confident the Jets can get to the WCF just because everyone in the central is just as streaky. Past that, I don't like putting my faith in a rental when the probability without him is always changing. I also really like the analogy of car parts for building an NHL team, Duchene is fancy new tires with excellent friction, but I would not go get new tires for my racecar if there is a probability bigger than nil that my motor blows out while I'm racing.
I like Dzingel because I think he can get signed with term for below 4.5mill. It's not a sure thing but it's possible, and I think that would be a huge bargain given that he is speedy, creative and a possible 30/30/60 guy.
As for Chevy, he'll do Chevy, but if he spends Vesalainen, Niku or any prospect that would have featured into plans next year, and we don't win or make the SCF, I won't like the trade.
