What does Detroit do this trade for? The non-defensive, non-physical, sporadic offense Burakovsky... or for the 55-ish pick? Which of those is for the retention too? What does Detroit do this summer when they are cap slammed and need to resign this overpaid RFA?

Lol.

Yeah... How could trading a $5M UFA for a $3M RFA possibly work when there is a salary cap?

Adding a 2nd is an overpay. Nyquist would definitely be a rental. Either team can easily afford Burakovsky's Q.O., and can't, in practical terms, file for arbitration, because he's got so few total points this year, his current hot streak notwithstanding, that he could end up below his Q.O., so whichever team has Buraovsky will get to sign someone producing about on par with Drouin, Domi, or Mantha, career, at about two thirds of the price of one of those guys, based on current performance.

I don't know if Washington does this.

If Oshie is out for a while, they can keep Burakovsky and just give up their 1st pick for a rental.

I agree with you on the trade, but Detroit will have alot of cap space next year.

He sees no difference in value of a "1st round pick". They are all high in value. Whether it is Washington's or Detroit's... basically equal value.

He honestly believes that something along the lines of Burakovsky and a 2nd could land Panarin. Probably with retention.

I think a team like Detroit that's building around guys in their early to mid twenties with 150 career points like Mantha and Athanasiou would rather add one more than spend a late twenties pick on some kid who ends up with a 50% chance of even reading 100 games played, five years from now.

Detroit fans keep knocking BUrakovsky offers as lowballs, but if this year is gone, Detroit has a much better chance of signing Burakovsky for the next six years than Nyquist for even two, if they're in cap trouble. Are they headed for cap trouble?

Everyone knocks your trades as "lowballs" because they are consistently excessively lowball offers. It is amazing that you understand that people keep pointing that out, but you don't understand that people keep pointing that out.

Yes. I'm willing to acknowledge that none of the offers I've posted on Gustav Nyquist weren't loballs. I just don't recall posting any offers on Nyquist. smile

The only problems with Burakovsky worth fixing in a trade for someone older are, as you so clearly stated:

non-defensive, non-physical....RFA?

This doesn't help.

It adds a little offense for a hot minute, at a cost of a good chance to bring him back.

If he's so inconsistent on offense, and it isn't just a few injuries creating that perception (as they did with Connolly or Hall in two of the best bargain pickups in recent NHL memory) how is he eleventh in his draft class in points, after five seasons?

In fact, he's one of the more consistent offensive players from his draft year. He doesn't have the highs and lows of a truly inconsistent player like Drouin or Domi, but he also doesn't have their power play time, and has about the same even strength point total as Drouin (he's ahead by two, with five more games played, but Drouin plays bigger minutes with better linemates now, and will catch up, soon).

There's no particular reason for the Caps to trade Burakovsky while he's chipping in at least half a point a game on the third or fourth line, as he has for the last few weeks.

Nyquist is a point a game top liner rental, and that's exciting, and Detroit says he's available for just a 1st pick. Burakovsky is worth exactly that, not half of that, as you keep insisting. He's 8th in his draft class in goals, and 11th in points, so a pick outside of the top 15 has very little chance of developing into anyone as good. From his year, the only non-top-15 pick with more points is Guentzel, and while Guentzel is very good in his own right, again, ice time and linemates can make a difference.

Every time you bring up someone compared to their draft class, smack yourself.

2013 was a bad draft for forwards. There. Your argument is negated.

You are one against everyone else. Let that stew... Who do you think is WRONG, the one or the everyone else?

Plus, if Burakovsky is such a GOD, why do you try to trade him in basically every AGM that you do? Is it because he is overpaid 3rd line junk and even though you don't want to admit it, you actually know it?

The one, or everyone else?

I'm not the one suggesting Burakovsky is available. I just enjoy the puzzle of how trading him away could possibly turn out to be a good idea.

This is a horrendous garbage trade for Detroit. You're proposing trading a 60 pt man for a 20 pt man and a late 2nd....Make that 2nd round pick a 1st round pick OR Alexander Alexeyev and its a deal.

Burakovsky just turned 24, scored 7 points in nine games between January and February, and will be an RFA. Would be easy to re-sign for many years at 4M or less. Is about as good as Mantha, from the same draft year. Nyquist will turn 30 this summer. Someone will pay him a lot this summer. If it's Detroit, that's fine. Caps should be pretty happy to keep a guy who hit 35 points at 21, and then got a couple of untimely broken bones that limited his production.

Through his age 24 season, Nyquist posted 61 regular season points, and five in the playoffs.

Burakovsky has 136 and 16.

So that's cool? kthkbayeeee!

Your comment makes no sense. Bura jumped into the league as a 20 year old. Nyquist went to University first and jumped into the league at an older age...of course he'll have more pointy by his 24th birthday. 4 seasons in the league vs 2.

Since they've been in the league together.
2015 - Bura 22 points, Nyquist 54 points
2016- Bura 38 points, Nyquist 43 points
2017 - Bura 35 points, Nyquist 48 points
2018 - Bura 25 points, Nyquist 40 points
2019 - Bura 17 points, Nyquist 48 points

As for playoff points...Bura has had the luxury of playing on a stacked Washington team and getting to play more playoff games...

So Detroit keeps the far more productive player, cool. kthkbayeeee!

The only year Burakovsky didn't get a bone broken by getting slashed, Nyquist got five more points than him. Got it.

Career points/60, Nyquist is ahead 2.26 to 2.06, but he's also six years older, 58% higher paid, and headed for a UFA contract that's going to be more than Washington has cap space for.

So to put it in perspective, would you trade Anthony Mantha (also 2.06 points/60, career. Same age as Burakovsky. Picked in the same round) for one year of Panarin, if you knew Panarin was going to Chicago next year?

No?

Alright.... well... is Nyquist as good as Panarin?

Edit: Third question: what pick would Columbus have to add to trade three months of Panarin for the rest of Mantha's career?

And again, is Nyquist as good as Panarin?

Edit: This year, when Nyquist plays most of the time with Dylan Larkin, he's on pace for 60 points. Last year, when he played most of his games with Henrik Zetterberg, he got 40. Panarin gets 60 points with centers as bad as Anisimov. It was a rhetorical question, though.
