Description
Stamkos wants to stay in Tampa, so his agent and the Lightning compromise on a 5 year term at 10 million.

Van Trade: The Canucks desperately want to get better right away, so they give up the 5th overall pick for Drouin and take on Carle's bad contract to clear cap space for TBay.

Calgary Trade: Bishop is an excellent player who would probably command the 6th overall pick straight up if he were a skater. Unfortunately the goalie trade market doesn't fetch as much, so the Lightning need to throw in their late 1st rounder to make the deal work.

This scenario allows the Lightning to keep their captain, stay an elite team, add two blue chip players at the draft, and have a much more flexible cap situation.

The VAN trade is an interesting thought, Drouin could be the man there and Tampa wouldn't necessarily be any worse off without him.
For the CGY trade I don't think that Bishop (or any goalie for that matter) is worth the 6th OA, even with the 27th OA. It's not necessarily an issue of the value not being there but rather CGY not being that desperate for a goalie. Too much of a sellers market at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on what I saw from Drouin in the playoffs, this Canucks fan might not mind that type of deal. It gives Tampa another very good prospect that will be on an entry level deal for 3 years and a big cap relief in losing Carle. From the Canucks perspective, Drouin has shown (in a small sample) that he could be a 1st line piece in the Sedin succession plan.

Why would Vancouver need to take on Carle? Drouin for the 5th is pretty close as is. Vancouver throws in a B prospect or a second rounder and it should be done. If Carle is in the deal, I'd rather just keep Tkachuk/Dubois/Chychrun.

I like the other trade however.

A struggling team (Calgary) isn't going to trade a high first rounder for one year of Bishop. And few teams can afford his 5.9m salary. What Tampa needs next year is for a Western Conference goalie on a contending team like Chicago to have Crawford injured, near TDL . Then Tampa can get some trade value for Bishop

Once again palhal, with these types of trades, the trading team gives permission to the other team to work out a framework for a future contract ahead of making the trade. Yes i know they could get him for free at free agency but that diminishes the odds you have to actually get him and when it comes to star players, many teams will want to get a guy like Bishop making him extremely hard to land. The trade would have to hinge on a verbal agreement that a new contract is signed mid year.

So with that said its like trading for Bishop signed longterm. Lets say 6 years for example. Wouldn't that be a fair price for a vezina candidate and one of the better goalies int he league? (Not too mention that your also still gonna get a 1st rounder this year.)
