A 23 year old who just broke out and a 1st for Stone? Plus some random guy?
I assure you if Stone gets traded to Winnipeg, there will be at the very least a package consisting of one of Niku/Stanley + one of lemieux/Petan + a 2019 1st and a conditional 2020 1st. At the very least like theres no way in hell Stone gets traded for less than Stanley + Petan, a 1st and another conditional 1st

Two prospects who no one even knows if they will play in OTT compared to Appleton (who will be OTT #2 RW) and a prospect in Virtanen(who just won a gold in the WJC as a shutdown 3C)

I'll add a conditional first....which means nothing to the Jets....BTW, Appleton and Virtanen is a better package than Stanley and Petan

CLB's 1st is higher than WPG's.

Even if Abramov=Appleton and Davidsson=Virtanen, debatable at the very least

Stone's value > Duchene's.

There fore you need to add more. Not to mention that CLB threw in a conditional 1st also.

Just to a mtch the CLB offer it would need to be:

Appleton
Virtanen
2019 1st
2020 1st conditional on signing
(Insert a little extra here because CLB pick will most likely be higher than WPG)

Im not sure about Appleton, hes 23 years old and in his 1st year.

If i was to bet, i think Dorion will get Samberg or Niku + Appleton + Petan, a 1st and another conditional pick.

The two prospects that I have here are better than Columbus', the first rounder of Columbus will be better and if WPG needs to add in a conditional first, well sure...It wont prove anything as WPG cant re-sign him anyways.

Duchene is a top 3 Center in faceoffs like every year .

to provide context , bottom 6 centers from bottom feeding teams like ARZ have been acquired for a 1st and a B level LD Prospect .
Centers in TODAYS NHL will always be worth more then wingers , even 30 goal scorer's .

how do i know ?
Pacioretty Saga revealed alot about the difference between a Duchene return and Pacioretty return .
dont argue he's 29 he's worth less because he's become a lot less 1 dimensional as he's matured which is why VGK gladly paid more then other teams were bidding to land him .

Every Star has a value in the NHL , doesnt mean every player does but Stars earned their reputation which is why 3-5 teams will always be interested .
take Plekanec for example , even MTL fans didnt think anyone would pay to acquire him for the playoffs as he's notorious for not showing up there but TML valued his faceoff ability enough to give us what would become Kulak and a 2nd round pick .

I still think Stone will get more than Duchene even though I agree with you, wingers generally get less than other positions. But I also think Stone is a more respected player and considered more valuable in GM's minds than Duchene is. That is why his value will end up being higher than Duchene's. Duchene is a vacuum, maybe not but Duchene has had his character questioned more than once and as talented as he is, I don't think a GM would pay as much for him as an equal centerman with less baggage would.

Regardless, my hypothesis is simply going off what OP said in his description. In his mind Stone is better than Duchene so then we can only assume the value he'd have to offer to get Stone would be greater than what CLB paid for Duchene.

There is only one way to find out whose right at the end of the day. When Stone gets traded. Regardless of the outcome, I agree with you 100%, wingers are less valuable than centerman. But i think its important to note that not all wingers are the same and not all centers are the same. The rule is based on two players who are identically talented and valued by GM's. If all of a sudden, wingers are in high demand over centers, the rule no longer applies does it.

You have to agree its debatable to say the least. Not everyone is stroking their bone over Appleton..... and Virtanen isn't exactly a sure thing prospect either... Anyways, the 1st round thing matters. Its the difference between WPG maybe landing Stone or not. You don't have to pay that price if you don't like it but they don;t have to trade him to WPG either.
