I think a bit too low on Norris $'s but Ill be happy if he signs for that.
1 year and 1 mil too much for Giroux IMO
and I hope they dont put Pinto in that trade, but Brown instead. I also believe that Zaitsev has to go for the Giroux signing to happen.

My ideal roster
Edmonton has to add something there to Ottawa. I Think Ottawa wants to use assets they get back from a Brown trade to flip for a dman. Likely they want picks/prospects

OK thats fair. We could argue about his worth at 2.3. Last year he was injured and had a terrible year. Before that, he and kerfoot are very similar and White would be 1.2/yr cheaper. With that said, for a 2nd, you can find another 3/4 line defensive forward that can take a faceoff.

Am lost on why AZ does the Zaitsev deal, but I like this new GM. Sandin is rich, but it messes with Toronto so I love it.
Spending to the cap, encouraging UFA's to sign here and a shrewd negotiator getting Norris for 4.5. You have my vote!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Just because you retain on a bad player doesn't make them worth anything. Dude is a stretch at being woth a 7th at full price, retained doesnt jump him up to a 2nd</div></div>
OK that is fine, make it a 4rd. This is just a group of ideas of how I think Toronto could be much better in 2 years while solving some of their current issues. The 2nd or 3rd doesnt change much for toronto or ottawa. Nichuskin might need more money too, but there is a couple million left in cap space. I dont see the point in arguing over the fine details. Its all relatively vague but doesnt impact the overall idea.

Thats Cale Fluery, the Young Dman

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>The Leaf's are in win now mode so why would they take a step back? 2 years later Matthews might be gone. They are on the cusp of breaking through. They need to lock up a real #1 and I would like to see them add a solid power forward on the wing and you can add D depth at the deadline</div></div>
Oh for sure, and if the cap didn't exist, they could easily do all of that. What moves allow them to do all that you just suggested? Right now, they cant even sign a backup goalie... Nevermind a T6 power forward a #1 goalie and depth on D...
We've seen teams retool mid push, I agree they're close but unless you can move JT, its going to be a struggle. This team I made isn't very much worse, except for the Nylander removal, and who knows how long a winger like Slafkovski (at 6'4" and 220lbs already) is going to take to make an impact at the NHL level.

Nylander not being moved
Sandin is not getting more then Lilgrens 2x1.4
Subban of no interest unless on a spezza 800k deal
Georgiev not the guy and certainly not with kalgreen as backup for a team with cup aspirations.</div></div>
Thats fine, take the extra money from Sandin and Subban deals and get a better goalie, sign Fluery to league min and its basically the same. Subban isn't going to be playing for league minimum though.

Since 50% is retained. White had a bad year but before that is similar production to Kerfoot on a far worse team, cheaper/younger/bigger with the retained salary and is also a defensive specialist with PK ability.

For sure the specific deals aren't the point I'm making here. Just a framework to showcase an idea. NJ wants to get better now, Slafkovski adds size at a low $ amount.
This takes one step back, and injects some youth on ELC's to surround the core which is too top heavy right now. This makes the team worse today, and much better in 2 years

Addressing Leafs Needs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>I don't understand the Sens' motivation to do that trade. if they're retaining on Murray and taking on Mrazek, then the cap hit is basically the same as if they just kept Murray, who was the better goalie last season (although that's not saying much), and has a higher chance of just ending up on LTIR and being a complete non-issue for the Sens. can't be bothered to look too specifically into their contracts so maybe the Sens end up needing to pay out less real salary, but from a pure hockey standpoint, looks to me like Toronto gets the slightly better goalie with the smaller cap hit and while the Sens get the slightly worse goalie without any cap relief</div></div>
Exactly this. Ottawa could retain on Murray OR take Mrazek but not both. It would be far better from Ottawa's standpoint to buy out Murray. This is silly. Ottawa saves NO money and gets the worse goalie of the 2.

Whisker works wonders
Holy no...
This would be a huge overpay. Debrincat needs a 9 Million dollar QO - and will need a new contract, which will be quite large.
The 7th overall is really valuable. Draft boards have us taking Kemell @ 7 - a very high talent player.
Mads Sogaard is turning into a high end goalie prospect who at 6'7" tall is a monster. Lot of value there.
Ridley Greig likely jumps right into the NHL this year as a former first round pick.
Johansson is meh, as a 3rd round pick last year.
If this is the price, hopefully they let a different team take the plunge

Fiala trade
I feel like these are all overpays for a guy that they HAVE to move. What is he signing an extension at with this trade?
looking at other trades like this recently, Sam Reinhart pulled Devon Levi and a 1st (but Fla 1st was nowhere near the top of the draft). Pavel Buchnevich got a 2nd and Blais. Not crazy returns.
Id do a top 5 protected 2023 1st, and one of Greig/JBD/Gustavsson

Monahan was one of the worst C in the division last year. Hes falling fast, injuries have been bad. Maybe he bounces back, but right now, he isnt worth any 2 of the pieces you listed.

No to the lucic deal from Ottawa. Why would we take back a worse player, signed for longer at (after the retained salary) more money? Definitely would need to be more than a 2nd.
