More desperate teams have traded worse contracts and worse players before. Leafs offloading Muzzin will not be challenging. The only issue is which team Muzzin wants to go to. I think Dubas should do right by him and trade him to a competitive team. The Flyers under Torts will be nasty to play against, he will fit in well there.

Teams can do a quick turnaround. The Flyers underachieving last season does not mean they won't make the playoffs next year. And the management agrees. That's why they brought in Torts and not a younger coach. They want to make the playoffs. And Muzzin is a playoff proven player.

Why is Sandin, a 6th-7th Dman getting paid $2.5 million here. Liljgren has more value than Sandin (mainly because Lily is a RHD).

You really can't believe that Muzzin would leave his "hometown" in Toronto to poor Flyer team. Muzzin is could be on his contract, and the Leafs are a superior team compared to the Flyers,

Sandin is signed to a longer term. He's also more proven. If he wasn't injured he would've started in the playoffs, meanwhile Liljegren was dropped for Holl. I think Sandin's ceiling is a little higher, although both are top 4 defencemen in the making.

His team swept Tampa one year, and then beat the Leafs in 5 the next year. He's an excellent coach with a short-term lifespan.

Sure muzzin is decent but he is overpaid for the role he plays by a large factor. Philly has no need for a LHD and already said their defence looks good. They also wont be giving up draft picks for him either. There is also no way muzzin waives his NMC

In my eyes Lily has surpassed Sandin, Lily made great improvements while Sandin (due to injury) flatlined his progression. Obviously Sandin can have a break out year but it's a risk to sign him long term before you see him breakout. Lily, as stated being a RHD, pencils in the Top 4 already, why Dubas and Keefe have a hard on for Holl, nobody knows. Holl peaked with Muzzin but both have degressed badly last year.

I'll never know why Liljegren was removed from the Tampa series and the Leafs went with Holl. I wonder if it cost them the series. Gotta say Muzzin who had a poor season had a good playoff.

Not really. The market for Campbell will be big. Multiple teams want to sign him. If the Devils want the first crack at negotiating a contract that will cost something.

Varlamov trade looks reasonable, not sure about the retained % though. Isles would only move him to save some cap space, and retaining 50%+replacing him is likely the same cost overall.

I don't understand the Sens' motivation to do that trade. if they're retaining on Murray and taking on Mrazek, then the cap hit is basically the same as if they just kept Murray, who was the better goalie last season (although that's not saying much), and has a higher chance of just ending up on LTIR and being a complete non-issue for the Sens. can't be bothered to look too specifically into their contracts so maybe the Sens end up needing to pay out less real salary, but from a pure hockey standpoint, looks to me like Toronto gets the slightly better goalie with the smaller cap hit and while the Sens get the slightly worse goalie without any cap relief

Exactly this. Ottawa could retain on Murray OR take Mrazek but not both. It would be far better from Ottawa's standpoint to buy out Murray. This is silly. Ottawa saves NO money and gets the worse goalie of the 2.
