You are taking zaitsev... not just his contract. To be honest I think this is the top end of what we would get back but on a team with more of a need for a RHD this trade may go through. I think the leafs would take any pick if they needed him moved for cap reasons. In this agm it is just ridiculous. Keep zaitsev over stralman and save 500k but you can’t put marleau.

Exactly, the only problem moving forward is that if marleau doesn’t retire I don’t think we can keep this D core. I like zaitsev, even at his current contract. If he gets moved it’s only because of cap issues. Not his play. Saw another post of someone saying it would cost Rasanen and kappanen to move zaitsev. Seems like the people on this site like to think as a mob mentality.

I know we would be getting Zaitsev, but it makes no sense to take on his contract. It has term and a big cap hit for a 3rd pairing guy with alleged attitude problems. Leaf fans have quoted on other AGMs that he just doesn't have a good, winning mentality and he doesn't really care about getting better. There's no way the wings take on that contract, which would just give cap relief to their biggest rival. The only way they move it is through a draft day deal imo, where they pair him with picks to move down in the draft or whatever need there may be.

As far as what leafs fans say... they’re not all intelligent. I think the agm’s posted by leafs fans on here can attest to that.
