Kings Need Youth

Created by: ShockingReality
Team: 2018-19 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2019
Published: Feb. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried my best to get some younger guys in LA's system and selling some of the seasoned veterans.
Trades
1.
LAK
  1. Burakovsky, André
  2. Johansen, Lucas
  3. 2019 2nd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Burakovsky signs extension with LA.
WSH
  1. Kovalchuk, Ilya
Additional Details:
Kovy will love going to hang with his Russian buddies over in Washington.
2.
LAK
  1. Bennett, Sam
  2. 2020 1st round pick (CGY)
CGY
  1. Carter, Jeff
Additional Details:
This trade benefits both teams in such a way that Bennett is only 22, has time to grow and develop and can contribute a lot to an inevitable LA rebuild. Jeff Carter brings playoff experience and some secondary scoring to quite young Calgary Flames team.
3.
TOR
  1. Brown, Dustin
Additional Details:
Hard to evaluate Dustin Brown. He had a really good year last year but has returned to being not so good. Leafs get some toughness in Brown and the Kings receive a decent middle 6 winger in Hyman.

Washington dont have the cap space and thats an overpayment. Maybe Bura and a 2nd or Bura and a 1st if u retain 40% of his salary

Yeah that makes sense, Washington is extremely tight against the cap, has been for a while. I had wanted to get a defensive prospect in LA's system though as it appears they have none

Caps also don't want to add the term in Kovy's contract. Too costly, for too long, and we have some big names on the team needing new contracts after the next couple of seasons (Ovi, Backstrom, Holtby)

It'd be impossible to trade Kovy without a big salary retention.

Yeah. LA would probably have to retain all 50% to get him to go anywhere

Kings don't want Burakovsky's contract. His Qualifying offer is $3¼ million, and he's not worth that much.

Kings have a ton of quality defensive prospects. Kale Clague, Sean Durzi, and Mikey Anderson are all top-quality guys. If you're looking for NHL-ready defensemen, Sean Walker and Daniel Brickley were both highly sought after NCAA free agents last year that signed with LA. Walker is currently playing with the team and looks good. Brickley is currently injured, but will likely have a full-time role with the team next season.

Yeah I don't know why in the heck we signed him in the first place. And in my opinion Toronto doesn't accept that because Hyman is pretty valuable but Brown is just crap
