Top nine was perfect then it got brutal. The three guys you have scratched aren’t going to be scratched. Grzelcyk scratched? That’s one of the most absurd things I’ve ever seen on this site.

I could see Grzelcyk getting scratched for a game if he has a hiccup, but I agree the thought of him being scratched as if he's inferior to Moore and Miller is just plain wrong.

A legit argument could be made that he’s been their best d man this season

nope - only some are correct. right now Backes needs to be a healthy scratch, but his salary doesn't warrant him on the on the bench so instead, you have the following:

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak (one of the best lines in the league, don't break it up)
Debrusk - Krejci - Johansson (mojo showed great chemistry w these guys all healthy and Debrusk was going off, don't break that up unless injuries make you OR play drops that much)
Heinen - Coyle - Backes (should be Cehlarik - Coyle - Heinen, but the $6 million hit puts Backes in the lineup - Heinen belongs w 3rd line, he did his damage there last yr & mojo and pasta can flip if needed)
Nordstrom - Kuraly - Wagner (although the chemistry is better with it Acciari - Kuraly - Wagner, plain and simple Norstrom > Acciari)
Chara - McAvoy (clearly their top D pairing all year long, although i wouldn't mind seeing Chara/Carlo as a shutdown pairing in the playoffs if carlo can stay healthy)
Krug - Carlo (offensive guy paired with a stay at home, responsible defender - see comment above, but you can't put krug with McAvoy, Gryz, Moore, or Miller)
Grzelcyk - Miller (Gryz has far and away earned this spot, but i do like Moore > Miller, but Miller plays the right side, Moore doesn't plain and simple)

Rask
Halak (no surprise here, but i would say going into the playoffs don't be afraid to keep the rotation going, it's clearly working - they won't, but hey nothing says you can't try it)

Scratches:
Acciari (should be on the 4th line; see all other comments regarding 3rd and 4th line set ups)
Cehlarik (even with Backes scratched as he should be, Cehlarik still is scratched as well)
Moore (solid depth d piece and can be rotated in as needed)

That's only because basically all others have missed time.

He wouldn't be in my top 3 when healthy.

Chara is #1, anyone who disagrees isn't watching the fact that you can stick even Kevan Miller with him and form a formidable top pair or if you pair McAvoy or Carlo with him it becomes one of the leagues better top pairs. He gets the toughest matchups, barely makes any mistakes at all and still logs a good amount of Ice time. His impact on others is greater than than anyone else on the team except maybe Bergeron.

McAvoy is #2, He's just plain better than Carlo. Offensively he's light years better and defensively he's close to equal to Carlo. McAvoy makes higher end plays and has more responsibility than Carlo.

Carlo is #3, He gets overrated on here because he's bounced back this year after a down season last year which makes some stupid people giddy. He still turns the puck over a fair amount and doesn't move the puck all that much better than Kevan Miller. How is he defensively? Not comparable to Chara, that's for sure, which makes him the clear 3rd best defender on this team.

There are a lot of Krug haters on here, but he's probably better than Grzelcyk, especially if you put an emphasis on what the team actually needs. Every defender other than Krug plays above average defense, even Moore and Miller. Only McAvoy and maybe Grzelcyk are above average at the offensive end of the Ice, so Krug is more valuable to this team than a lot of people recognize. In terms of fits the team is greatly helped by his puck moving ability and there is a definite reason why he's in the top 5 in team scoring. Without Krug; the team would look a lot less aggressive and the pace of their play would dip. The PP would be hindered immensely as well. Without Krug on the PP this team might not be ahead of Toronto in the standings and Home Ice could end up being a big factor in that series.

Grzelcyk is good, but he's currently a 3rd pair defender and it's not because Cassidy is effing up the pairs. The only defenders on the team he's actually head and shoulders above is Kevan Miller and John Moore so it's not really a matter of him being one of the Bruins best defenders. That title goes to the real top players. Just because you had little expectations for him and he exceeded them doesn't make him better than all the guys you expected more out of because you KNEW they were better in the first place.
