Karlsson isn't settling for anything less than 8 digits.

he turned down 10m in Ott. He is going to get 10x7m at the very Min on the market. Could be a little more depending on the team etc

Dont get me wrong I believe he could get that much.. he turned that down in Ottawa in my opinion because he wanted out, however if I'm a GM I wouldnt want to give him that much money until hes done something for me like win a cup or two.. the problem now adays is players are getting paid like they've won already. to much way to quickly, elc to 10,000,000. I'd offer him 8mill and if he didn't take it he didnt take it

He said he didnt want to take less than he was worth and wanted market value. Which 8x10m wasnt market value at the time with Doughty signing his deal.
Hes a hall of fame Dman still in his prime years and one of the best Dman of this generation. If you can get him just for Cap space...you do it. 8m isnt even in the ball park my man. I think 10m on the right team is what he would settle for

Compare to Brent Burns. He's the NHL top D for 2-3 years now and and he signed for $8M AAV. I think Doughty is overpaid... certainly had a bonus for his 2 Cups. Guy is very good but the only one to go over $9M. Subban is overpaid at $9M. John Carlson is $8M, Hedman is $7,875M, OEL is $8,25M... So it's why I put EK at $8,75M.

I agree with you, I had an argument with a guy because I said Karlsson wasnt as good a burns so why would her get more money... his value is 8-8.5 million as it stands but 10.5 after hes won that team a cup

Kane and toews should only make that much because of what they did in chicago

like you said Subban is 9m aav, Doughty is 11m aav, If you think Karlsson is going to sign for less than Subban now after he has been under paid his whole career. He is going to get 10m easily. He has earned it and teams are not going to shy away from getting EK cb they dont wont to pony up an extra 1m to 1.25m to get him.

If you think Karlsson would settle for 8.5m...what do you think Tyson Barrie is going to get? Making 6m now and is going take a pay cut based on that logic. Points pay my man. I wouldnt be shocked to see someone give Barrie close to 8m

You can compare him to Subbans contract and Carlssons etc. but what Karlsson sees is Doughtys and that is what he will go for imo

I understand what you say guys but if we rely on averages for top D that perform, it gives around $8.5 - 9M for Karlsson. Doughty is the exception because the Kings gave him a nice bonus, probably happy to have won 2 Cups. And this has the effect of deceiving the market. McDavid is the exception at $ 12.5M, much like Toews and Kane ($10,5M) were in Chicago in 2014 after 2 Cups. Reality is the most dominant player in the league is Kucherov and he signed for $9.5M. Matthews and Tavares also are top players but are at $11.6M and $11M? There's surely a "CANADA" tax in those deals but I think TOR pays too much. That brings me to Rantanen, personnaly I think he's better than Matthews!! But why in the heck would I pay him more than Kucherov ?? It's a great debate guys! :-)
