Or consider they take Kakko #1 instead cause he's better and fits their system better

I agree with you that yes Kakko would be probably the smarter selection as he would be easier to plug into that top 6 due to lack of pure wingers. But you dont pass on Hughes if you are drafting 1

Isn't the point of picking #1 overall to pick the beat player? ... Kakko > Hughes

Hughes is the better player though. Kakko is really good but Hughes still tops him. What he has done to date, compared to other players who have came through that system, such as Kane, Matthews, etc He could be the best player to ever be developed by the USNTDP. The hype is real and no way you pass up on him at 1st overall

You only hear all the hype and more about Hughes cause he plays in North America.

Edit: sorry pushed the wrong button too early.. but Kakko plays against men already and is lighting it up. He's breaking records in the Finnish Elite League. There's a reason why he's compared to Matthews. Hughes is playing against teenagers. He should be tearing it up against them. Kakko is a far more complete player. He can play a skill game, or a power game, he's reliable defensively, and he uses his teammates well. Hughes is just more offensively creative. Kakko is better and should go #1 to any team picking

It's still tighter than we think between Hugues and Kakko. Let's say COL win the lotto. They must play the joker and let believe that they are undecided, that they really like both. And good chances that the team holding the #2 makes you a good offer to reverse the pick. Suppose that #2 team is LA Kings and they absolutely want Jack Hugues, you could manage to get maybe an Adrian Kempe in addition of Kakko... It's an option to consider if they win the lotto IMO.

I dont see any teams doing that to be honest. Trading the 1st overall pick hasnt happened in years...the last time was 2003. Its just an unprecedented trade now a days that fans lust over some mega ransom for...teams wont ever pay that price so in all reality the pick stays where its at
