They would still want top prospects back for him. Start with Hughes..

Canucks aren't parting with Hughes, whose value is higher than Ekblad in a 1 for 1. Juolevi is still in top prospect territory, in fact I think the trade is a steal from Florida's end

Hughes hasnt done anything in the league, he might but he didnt. Ekblad was no1 Dman for entirety of his career. Juolevi isnt in top prospect territory anymore. That is a bad trade for Florida, because if they are going to sign Panarin and Bob, they would want quality on their team. They can get better assets from Toronto for Ekblad if they are trading him but they are not.

Juolevi, Olli - Former top prospect, dragged down by injuries, still capable of becoming a top 2 D
Lind, Kole - Impressive second round pick who is playing according to his potential. Likely to be a second line winger.
Hutton, Ben [RFA Rights] - A top four defense man. He would take Ekblad's role.
Goldobin, Nikolay [RFA Rights] - Sniper who could do damage on the right team. Canucks haven't treated him the best, but he could perform at a second line rate.
Granlund, Markus [RFA Rights] - Decent penalty killer.
2020 1st round pick (VAN)

Ekblad is good, yeah, but these players all equate to more value than him. The problem is that this trade makes no sense for either team. Florida doesn't need a bunch of filler guys, who, combined equal more than Ekblad, but won't be building the team.
Juolevi, Lind and a First is pretty fair value. If not Lind, Gaudette.

I don’t think you can compare Hutton to Ekblad

Of all those guys I think you have good description on one. And its Goldobin who I agree has a great deal of talent, but his trade value is low.

Juolevi is former top prospect who still can be top-4 Dman but it would take few years, I would compare him with Borgman on Leafs, Borgman won rookie of the year in sweden which is insane to win, he is similar player, Lind is bottom-6 winger in NHL, nothing more, it would be important to see his progression with Utica but as of now it wasnt that good but hey, its his first season. But his ceiling is middle-6 winger likely 3rd liner at the moment, leafs comparison would be Korshkov maybe? Korshkov has great stats but was down a bit this year. Should make the team in 2yrs like Lind. Hutton I cant really compare anybody on Leafs to but he definitely isnt clear top-4 Dman, he is like 5th Dman. He wouldnt take Ekblads role. Not even close. Granlund I would compare to Brown in that defensive way but Brown is speedier player. 1st round pick is nice but better prospects to surround that. Quality over quantity for Florida. Package for Ekblad would be around Woo, Juolevi, 1st and something to that even if not Hughes. You are massively undervalueing Ekblad.

Believe the Canucks would rather have the cap space....Reimer and Ekblad cost 11m....and keep those young assets even if all of them aren't stars.
