A Likely Scenario

Created by: ChiHawk
Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2019
Published: Mar. 24, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the kind of likely scenario I could see shaking out.

Martinez would be a great stop gap until Krys and Beaudin are ready.

Compher would be an awesome addition and COL could use a top 9 winger. With Caggs, Kampf and Compher, that 4th line becomes a huge strength for the Hawks, big gritty and capable of a goal or more every game. Compher is also a Chicago guy. Fills the needs of both teams.

Dzingel, another Chicago guy, comes back home. This is the top 6 winger we need. Yes, I want Panarin but Hawks need a LHD, top 6 winger and bottom 6 anchor....we can't afford Panarin with the other two needs.

I've got AA staying another season and he's a solid 3rd line option IMO. Could he get traded after July 1 when is NTC is removed, yes, but keep him and move him during the deadline or expose him in the expansion draft next summer.

I don't think that's going to get Compher. And I also don't think Martinez is the D man to target. I think EDM will move one of Nurse or Klefbom for some wingers. I'd be open to moving Saad. I'm still looking to target Panarin. I feel like the hawks could get similar output out of Caggiula on that top line at a better price.

Caggs and Dzingel are way different players. Caggs isn't going to ever play at a PPG (Dzingel was in OTT) or .75ppg where he is for the season. Panarin is a long shot and given the multiple needs, isn't affordable. Dzingel is affordable.

I agree, would rather have Nurse or Klefbom for sure. Kahun and a 1st for a either if they include Manning as a cap dump. That's a good deal.

I think that's pretty fair for the Avs considering Compher is a RFA and will take $2M+ to sign versus Kahun who's on a ELC. Both have similar production just different roles. I think that 4th line with Caggs and Compher flanking Kampf would be deadly next season. Hawks need to see if the Avs would trade him; plus he's a Chicago guy.

In this scenario was thinking the Hawks expose 3 of Martinez, Anisimov, Saad or Murphy to the expansion draft after next season. You have to figure Boqvist will be ready the season after next and likely Mitchell or Beadin so Martinez and Murphy should be expendable.

The Seattle team will play in 2021-2022 though if my research is correct. So the expansion draft won't be until after the 2020-2021 season. Dzingel would be good, and the hawks definitely need more depth up front. I would personally be interested in Ferland to add some size and much needed net front presence.

My bad, you're absolutely right...not sure why I was thinking a year earlier.

Ferland would be another option instead of Dzingel. That said, would much rather have Dzingel all else being equal.

So let me ask you;

Assume we get Dzingel or Ferland

What package would you put together to get Nurse or Klefbom and JT Compher?

Honestly think the addition of 3 of those guys will fill most of our holes for the next couple years.

I guess I'm okay with it. I'd prefer to keep Kahun, but Compher is alright I guess.

I don't think Martinez is worth that much, but if he is, I'm not sure we should be paying it. What do you think about Brendan Dillion, Jon Merrill or Marco Scandella? All of them are free agents at the end of next season

Well, EDM is looking for a top 6 winger, and the hawks have one on their third line. I would move Saad for either one, and add a 2nd and maybe a 4th to even out the value. That gives the hawks a little more cap space as well.

Problem is, Oilers need to shed cap not add or break even on a trade. That is why Kahun is a good fit in the trade. Maybe Kahun and a 2nd for Nurse or Klefbom while taking on the cap dump of Manning since he has only 1 year left?
