Vancouver first will be top 10, Bo Horvat would be great at 2c for Colorado, if they didn’t have his brother i think Vancouver says no, especially if they slip and that pick ends up 5th or 6th

The offer is a joke value wise. Teams don’t trade the first overall for a second line center and the 8th pick or whatever.

not enough from Van....Hughes is a very special talent. Avs keep the pick to draft Hughes to what would be considered a downgrade to Horvat (who is a very good player still) just to pick up another 1st.

The Hughes hype will just inflate the value of that pick to the point htat no team will want to pay the ransom to get it. Vancouver would have to over pay on top of overpay to buy that pick from the Avs. They arent just giving it up

I just see Colorado as a piece or two (makar and Horvat might do) away from being a contender and so if they can get an awesome center to make a 1/2 punch of Mackinnon and Horvat and also get a very good prospect that they can move for another big piece or keep and developed to help later but if there is another move that follows this can impact the roster a lot more instantly than a rookie Hughes (which would still be pretty damn good) will, would you do this is Vancouver loses their last few games and that pick is 5th?

I see your point but if that pick is 5th and Horvat could play first on some teams (not COL though) I think that is an interesting offer

It's hard to say if VAN would want to do that. They already have their 1C in Petterson and Horvat is a very strong 2 way player, the perfect 2C. What VAN needs is wingers to go with their top Cs. Right now they have Boeser and that is about it!

Other way around doesn’t change anything for me cause im not a VAN fan, but if it was the leafs with the 1st overall pick this year and they had the cap space to take Horvat /if Horvat was LW I’d certainly consider it

So would you have considered it the year the leafs drafted Matthews? Let’s say the 8th overall that year and a real good second line Center for Matthews. Alex Nylander and the second line center...would you do that?

That’s different cause the leafs were in the tank and needed Matthews, but this year with the leafs where they are today if it’s 5th overall Bowen Byram and Horvat is conmfortable on the LW I think that I’d have to consider it, I would definitely do it if I had another trade in place Bowen Byram for a RD like Hamilton (if they had to add whatever), I think there is a lot more value coming back that can help right away than you think

Man, Colorado fans really out here acting like they already have Jack Hughes when they've only got a 20% chance

Makar and Hughes would be a better 2 pieces than Makar and Horvat...your reasoning is flawed

for the point of this roster, a hypothetical saying it was for the 1st overall pick and made a trade with the Avs.
SO try again to take a shot at the Avs bc you are still upset you didnt get Makar for Kevin Hayes as a rental

Buddy, show me where I said anything close to that. I had no desire for the Rangers to trade Hayes, let alone to the Avs for Makar.

Yeah cause rookies are always great two way centres and great in the face off circle, Hughes long term is better but for next year I’d rather have Horvat, then add to that another elite prospect (Byram) that either helps down the road or is moved for another win now piece and it’s clear which roster would be better in the short term (assuming the prospect is traded)

Hughes smashed matthews records...as a leafs fan would have you done that with the Matthews pick...trade him for a 2way 2nd line C and a 1st round pick? No you keep the 1st overall and hope the hype is as advertised.

Its not rocket science here

As I have already said in this thread when the leafs got Matthews they were horrible and needed Matthews, but if the leafs had this years 1st pick is trade it for Horvat (if is good at LW) and the 5th overall pick to take Byram, and if Byram can’t make the roster I’d move him for another Win now piece, specifically a RHD, Colorado isn’t in the same position as the leafs RN but they certainly aren’t in the position the leafs were in 3 years ago/ OTT is in today, if they can use this 1st pick to get 2/3 Big roster pieces that will put the into an absolute contender status, why not?

Your logic is so flawed, Avs have mackinnon so they dont need elite talent so they can say no thanks and just trade him away for lesser players? Thats how you get fired as a GM. Hughes is on another level. You can do more with Hughes on an ELC than Horvat and wait a few years for Byram...hes not NHL ready to step in as an 18 year old Dman.

Think this through

As I said if he isn’t NHL ready I’d make a second trade and get two or three roster pieces, and a Rookie Hughes will not be any better than Horvat, Hughes will be better probably sophomore and definitely beyond, but this year Two Big trades, maybe more if someone else wants to trade up to take Byram so you trade down a couple more times, will impact the roster more immediately, I am not saying the avs definitely want to trade this pick, but there are reasons for doing so and if they did this trade is a good start assuming VAN pick is around 5th or 6th, It’s like you have never heard of trading young players with Higher upside for something that will help win now, this isn’t foreign concept, it’s like every deadline deal but on a much bigger scale
