Getzlaf is awful. It's better to keep kadri and not get pesce, their defensive depth is fine if they only get Larson or just sign someone like stralman

Possibly true. I’ve actually been thinking a better option might be move Nylander to 3c and use the extra money on a new RW. Marner and Kapanen are quite capable top 6 wingers. Could even just try bracco there if nobody good available.

Awful is a word most people wouldn't associate with Getzlaf, but he is definitely playing on an awful team.. He has had some injury problems, but im some ways he is like a poor mans version of Joe Thornton, and even saying that might be harsh.

In some ways he could be a really good fit on this team. He has a pass first mentality that in theory should click well with some of their elite scorers and he wouldn't be relied on to play top 6 minutes or score at a top 6 rate. But even with the retained salary he isn't an ideal fit for Toronto.

I agree with your characterization of Getzlaf. But I think he fits nicely. Basically replaces Kadri’s hit. And Pesce basically replaces Zaitzev. And while I love Kadri, I think he’s wasted at 3c. The downgrade at 3c would be more than offset by replacing Zaitzev with Pesce.

Getz would fit well for 2019-2020 but then Bracco, Rosen and Dermott are all RFA the following year and I don't see how they retain everyone. I guess you lose Muzzins 4 Mil and the cap will increase, maybe there is room for everyone..?

In the future I’m not worried. Cap keeps going up 3-5 million per, and none of those likely to need big raises. Worst case scenario have to trade Johnsson or Kapanen.

That's a good point. To retain your upcoming RFAs, you need expiring UFA contracts.

I really don't like the Larsson acquisition...seem like a steep price for two years. Rather keep Zaitsev...and Brown, and Liljgren.. If necessary trade Brown for a pick.

I know he gets brow beaten a lot because of the brutal trade how he got to Edmonton, but if you value defence, Larsson’s advanced stats are easily top pair value. A decent but not top prospect, mediocre pick, and 4th line penalty killer is a pretty sweet deal imo.

Please actually read the description. As for Carolina Trade, why not? Trading from a position of strength for one of extreme weakness. For both teams. Kadri a top tier 2C.
