none of that makes sense to me. Why would Washington trade a better goalie in Holtby, and Burakovsky who has finally got his $hit together (sort of) for an overpaid Kovalchuk, a Goalie who is definitely not as good as Holtby, and Scherbak who does not interest me at all at this point. Then you trade Holtby for a Middle/Bottom 6 F in Lazar, a 7th D-man, a decent prospect and a 2nd and a 4th? Makes no sense to me at all. The Clutterbuck and Toffoli trade makes even less sense could get way more for Toffoli.

I agree 100%. Holtby is so underrated if you only look at his stats. Capitals leave him out to dry constantly. Also bura is a .5ppg player since January ....no reason to trade him for aging less talented players.

Reason for WSH trade is that Holtby's most likely leaving after the 2019-20 season since his contract ends. Quick brings them an experienced goalie behind Samsonov at a reasonable cost ($4,5M).
Kovalchuk could also be a solid 50-point player alongside Kuznetsov and Ovechkin, and that's decent for a $4M player.

For CGY trade the reason is that LA as a rebuilding team don't need Holtby, but CGY could use him, since they're lacking a great goalie. LA gets some decent prospects, but they need to add Stone in order to make the money work.

Same goes for the NYI trade. Toffoli is not worth a 1st as of now, but if they take Clutterbuck's contract in the process, they can land a first for him.

But the concept of what you are saying is that Washington has no other choice than to trade Holtby. It doesn't mean he has any less of value. He is still a great Goalie. You can literally get him for face value, but no extra based on need of player value. So no extra value, but at least face value, and face value is a Cup Winning Goalie. Quick is too, but again older not as good anymore.

That I agree with. This trade would only happen if WSH must trade Holtby.

Caps could trade Holtby+Bura for a huuuuge return. No way they do it for a meh goalie, a potentially washed up KHLr (hard to tell since he's playing for LA), a 3rd liner at best in Scherbak, and 4th liner in Lazar, and a 3rd.

Holtby alone could get a top 10 pick.

Varlomov a few year back was traded for a forsberg pick and Holtby is way better

if u watch the kings play quick gets left out to dry every game too. i fell bad watching him have to suffer with a trash defense. id also rather have playoff quick than just about anyone else in playoffs. not a slight to holtby hes great too
