Trying to fix EDM

Created by: UpsideDownQue
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2019
Published: Apr. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Step 1: Fire everyone. Literally everyone.

Step 2: New GM - Steve Yzerman (if he doesnt want to be GM then hire Mark Hunter)

Step 3: New Coach - Joel Quenneville, Sheldon Keefe, or Lindy Ruff (in order or preference)

Step 4: New Scouts - IDK who just replace the old ones

Step 5: Get rid of trash players

Step 6: Overpay on short term deals to attract players

Step 7: Draft BPA with remaining picks

Some trades may be off in value but I dont care. I did my best to fix EDM and brought in as many depth players as possible. 5 new wingers, 3 new defensemen, 2 new goalies.

If TOR matches that offersheet then sign Connolly with the extra cap space (for 2.5M-3M). If this happens EDM could also afford to sign someone better than Polak.

I like it, but I don’t think Edmonton would have to retain THAT much on Lucic.

Dude, great job on this. It looks like it actually could work.
My only comment, I think you only need to give up one pick to get Brown from Leafs

I don’t like the Arizona trade, giving away our first. Oilers need there first to make there team better! But either than that it is good!!

usually I dont like the Idea of trading down in the draft as a rebuilding team but in this case I didnt see any other way to dump Lucic's contract. EDM still gets a mid-first round pick out of it anyway

Don't do the Ferland and Doonskoi deals. This team isn't ready. Frankly don't do the Lucic deal this year. Accept that next year is a rebuilding year. Ditch Lucic in 1-2 years.

After the McDavid interview I dont see McDavid being ok with losing anymore. If EDM wants to keep McDavid happy they will try to win now

I’d rather sign Dzingel than ferland. That Colorado trade makes no sense as both Barrie and Nieto have only 1 year left on their deal. I’d trade nuge for someone on a similar contract as him such as Dougie Hamilton. The rest looks good tho

      And then they'll never win.

The right answer is to sit him down, explain the situation (that you can try to win now, but won't be able to, or you can accept the idea of a rebuild for 1-2 years, then be competitive fire the next 5 years of your contract).

There is a big difference between trying to win and failing (the last two years), and accepting that you are trying to rebuild and growing from within and have the appropriate growing pains. If you can change the perspective your fine.

If you keep trying short term fixes you'll never build a contender.

He’s a UFA at the end of the 2020-2021 season, same with nuge. Barrie and Nieto are UFAs at the end of the 2019-2020 season.

I had no idea. I really thought he was a UFA after next season. My mistake
