1.
PIT
  1. 2020 5th round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Johnson, Jack
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Cap dump.
2.
PIT
  1. Hjalmarsson, Niklas
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (ARI)
ARI
  1. Schultz, Justin
Additional Details:
Pittsburgh defense has been awful through the 3 games with the NYI. The team plays little to no defense and needs a rock on the blueline, a stay at home defenseman that Niklas Hjalmarsson can provide.
3.
PIT
  1. Goldobin, Nikolay [RFA Rights]
VAN
  1. Rust, Bryan
Additional Details:
Trying to clear some cap space and give some struggling players a chance, I feel that Goldobin is a good player that needs to be given one last chance.
4.
PIT
  1. Compher, J.T. [RFA Rights]
  2. Kaut, Martin
  3. 2020 1st round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Kessel, Phil
Additional Details:
Trading Phil the Thrill is a controversial move, but it may be time to start getting younger and faster for the Penguins. Compher is a solid roster player, Kaut is a good prospect taken in the first round in the 2018 draft, and a 1st round pick. Kessel is an extremely good player and honestly may fetch an even bigger return.

If Justin Schultz has been a major part of a defense that has been awful the first three games with the Islanders, why would Arizona overpay for him?

I feel that Hjalmarsson is just a little under the value of Schultz. Schultz plays a mostly offensive game and Pittsburgh can have Letang for that. They need a stay at home blueliner.

I like the kessel Trade, that’s a very solid return. Not a fan of the Schultz trade though. Pens need to get younger and faster, not older and slower. This team was best when we were an up tempo, creative, offensive oriented team.

Except that Schultz has only one year left on his contract and Hjalmarsson has two, and I don't think Schultz's 15 points are that much an offensive plus over Hjalmarsson's 10. Not to mention the fact that both have NTC's. My point is that there is absolutely no incentive for Arizona to make this trade.

You're definitely right, Pitts won two cups off that formula. I had wanted to bring some defense into the lineup, as I've been following the Pitts/Isles series fairly close and noticed that the D have been leaving Murray out to dry so often.

The guy is coming off a broken leg. Did you think he was going to simply lace up skates and it was going to be fine. That's stupidity. It will take months for him to be at normal.

Trading rust is an epic blunder. The guys got speed and skill.

Lets hope the retool starts with
Raphael Lavoie or Brett Leason taken in the draft.

I agree Pens need a top 4 LHD but trading Schultz just creates another hole. I’d use other pieces to bring in Hjalmarson. John Chayka loves his analytics.... maybe a deal around Simon+ 2nd round pick would peak his interests
