Description
If DW decides to change the culture after this year's playoffs. The BUF trade depends on Burns waiving his NTC, but I think its a fair basis for a trade. BUF needs to take the next step and challenge for a playoff spot next season and I believe this trade makes them a better team for the next few years. It also seems like Risto could use a change of scenery. Let me know if I'm off here.

Buyout Jones, trade Dell, implement a new goalie tandem for next year. Let Pavelski, Thornton, and Karlsson walk, get younger. I wouldn't mind bringing back Thornton if Suomela isn't ready for a full-time role.

only improvement is Mrazek here

Ristolainen is simply not very good and certainly not a top pairing d-man and to replace Burns and EK65 with risto and myers is just asking for a last place finish

then replace pavelski with dzingel oh gosh

sure the team isnt going to go far this year but the problem with San Jose starts and ends with the goaltending. they havent even looked bad this series they will dominate some periods then vegas comes down and one little outside wrister finds it way past jones/dell

Also to think Burns would waive his NMC is absolutely ridiculous

no player in the NHL would choose to move to Buffalo from San Jose- Trust me I recently moved from Buffalo to Cali lol

sorry but this is bad

Thanks for the reply,

I realize it's unlikely Burns would waive for BUF, but I thought it was an interesting basis for a trade. I didn't realize Risto had fallen off that much. From the Sharks point of view, the purpose of this retool would be to get younger and shed Burns' long term contract, even if it means taking a step back. Pavelski had a great season this year, but most Sharks fans believe he will get worse from here on out. Instead of giving him a 3 yr deal at $7-8 per, going with a cheaper option with more potential in Dzingel/Ferland seemed like a fresh idea.

I realize this is all unlikely, but this years' playoffs have been concerning to say the least. I believe there's more to it than just goaltending (coaching, team defense, special teams).

Anyways, I appreciate your reply.

Picks/prospects could be added by BUF to even out the value, but if we could shed his contract and pick up a young-er top 4 D and some picks I would strongly consider it. Burns is 34 and carries an $8 mil/yer hit through his 40 year old season, so I'm not sure how much more teams would be willing to part with for a contract like that. Not to mention his below average D-play.
