No cap trouble here

Created by: Kongol
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2019
Published: Apr. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Adding some size, and grit in having Polak back.
Plus Puljujarvi has upside potential and a big frame.

Spurgeon adds a solid RHD to the mix, and for the fee games a season, Scott couldn't do any worse than Sparkes.

Possibly off on values for trade.

Thoughts?

I'd hope the Wild don't take that. Spurgeon will cost you one of Kapanen or Nylander.

Wings are not taking on toxic Zaitsev contract unless you give up something.

Minnesota won't accept that and you've underpaid Kap.

Johnsson is underpaid, obviously you haven't been paying much attention to Kap and Johnsson North American stats, they're equals both in AHL and NHL totals. I say split the difference and they both get 2.8 million.

Seeing how Mike Greene is hurt more than he's healthy. Plus he's aging. At 3.25M Zaitsev isn't that bad of a hit for the next 4-5 years. The Wings would get more out of him than Greene. Not to mention his ability to eat minutes on the PK when called upon.

So for a 3rd and a 7th, I don't think it's that bad of a deal. Come TDL they can always flip him again when a team begins to get injured like every year.

Kappy has one more year under his belt than Johansson, hence the term and extra 500K. Both know Marleau is off the books the following season and cap will have increased twice when he is up for an extension again. He'll be making 3X what he is currently, and be up for a major pay raise/extension in just 2 years. To me that's hard to say no too.

As it stands, I believe Kappy is worth the little extra as he is also a valuable member of the PK. Same sort of scenario as Johansson in regards to being able to sign big money and term in just 3 years.

How so?
I am under the Cap Max with a 22 man roster.
Next year some contractors are off the books and the cap will have risen again. Where is the trouble too?

I believe they would look at Kadri. Especially with Bracco thrown in. Kadri could be 2nd C or a definite solid 3C on the Wild and Bracco has the potential to crack their bottom 6. Both the term and the salary is nice with Kadri.

He's a left shot two-way center (we currently have 2 with Koivu and Eriksson Ek) that is also 28. Basically he doesn't fit a need, as we need young right shot offensive C/RW's.

You don’t have a full roster. Your contracts are light.

Oh, and the spurgeon trade is a joke

I agree they are both underpaid here but they arent equal players just because of stats and stats alone don't justify pay, obviously you don't understand that.

And the Leafs are run by Dumass who looks at stats only and doesn't understand anything either. In today's NHL GM's use a contract calculator base on stats to figure the players worth, you don't understand that? everybody talks about AVV and cap % more than the players on ice (off ice) abilities now. I'd value Johnsson over Kapanen more, only because the Leafs LW depth is garbage. Kapanen has better speed and 2 years younger, other than that they're equals. Pay them as equals now but with different contract lengths, I'd say 4 years on Johnnson, so he'll reach his UFA status, and 2 years on Kapanen, so the Leafs retain his RFA rights and he can finally prove that he's worth 5+ million (if the 'Yotes believe Shmaltz is worth that already and Tbay has lesser players in Groude, Palat and Miller all getting 5+).

Scouts go to games to watch the players, they don't rely exclusively on stat sheets. They consider stats and use a calculator but that's not the only thing that drives a contract. Because Kap is 2 years younger and faster winger he should get slightly more as he has a higher ceiling; nobody knows what that is yet because at 22 years old it's hard to say.

I'll agree, which why I suggest pay them equal but different lengths of contracts, if 2 years from now Kappy is a 25-60 point player while Johnsson is still a 20-45 point player than Kappy proves he is worthy of the 5+ million contract.
