MTL should try and get more from the Tampa trade.

I posted a trade very similar a while ago, I think Erne would be very useful in Montreal but you're right Tampa would have to add at very least a 4th rounder.

Will he be anything more than a bottom 6 player though? We're taking all this cap and helping TB with their situation for a guy who is more than likely a 4th liner, at best 3rd line winger..... I dunno, we're filled to the brim with bottom 6 players already. We need top 6 players and better dmen more than we need another bottom 6 winger IMO. I don't see much of point to this.

You make a good point but what I like about Erne is his net presence which was sorely lacking on Montreal's PP this year. He's also young and a decent skater so he'd fit right in.

Fair enough. He could be a good pickup but is he worth taking Callahan over? I dunno, Id rather just get a good draft pick and draft that player instead. Erne is 24 and just now starting to enter the NHL. I don't think he's anything special to actively go after.
