As an Albertan, there's no player I would rather see win the cup than Iggy

COL says no to that deal fast. Theyd rather have the cap space when Iggys deal is done at the end of the year, then to pay Orpik 5.5mil for 3 years.. I'd do Iginla for a 3rd/4th round pick as long as the deal is done prior to free agency. That way Colorado has time to spend that money on Boedker/Okposo before they sign elsewhere

Hard no on Orpiks, they dont need that contract on the books for 2 more years. A 2nd round pick and a prospect is more likely package for him

Hard no from the Avs. Iginla to the Caps makes a lot of sense at the deadline if Iginla decides he wants to chase another cup (he doesn't want to move prior to the deadline by the sounds of it) but the Avalanche absolutely will not take the term and cap of Orpik on in return. They have Iginla's cap hit expiring just in time to hand out some other important raises, they won't squander it absorbing the Caps mistake

Everyone said's hard no for the Avs, but are forgetting that they're the worst run organization in the league on analyzing players. It's unlikely, but possible.

not sure if this is true or relevant?? Lol. It's quite obvious that Iginla is leaving next year and that is gained cap space. Also that Orpik is MAJORLY overpaid at 5.5 mil and at a longer length contract. It's pretty clear cut its a bad deal. Saying a team is poorly run doesn't make this trade any more likely
