Western Conference Trades

Description
(Trades listed in chronological order.) The Calgary and Edmonton trades were suggested by fans of the other teams. Minnesota colleagues whose opinions I value tell me that they would like some defensive depth in the form of prospects that actually have a chance to make the NHL roster (and Holl is a hometown boy).

Proximity to the cap ceiling restricts movements back and forth with the Marlies, but maybe the cap rises to $83M (or more) or Dubas is able to sign Marner for something more reasonable.

Well done I would imagine something like this is going to happen in the summer around the draft

Thanks for the compliment. I hope that this post gets a lot of responses (favorable or not). I posted one like it a week ago and got exactly zero comments. In that one, I proposed a Nylander trade to Arizona for their first-round pick (#14) and Vinnie Hinostroza and the silence was deafening.

For the EDM trade I'd try:
To EDM: Nylander and Brown
To TOR: Larsson, Safin, and a 2nd.

Also, I think TOR will explore trading Dermott

I could live with that.

Speaking of Dermott, another Toronto follower just posted an alternative Calgary trade: Kadri and Dermott for Jankowski and Andersson. I'd sweeten that with a high draft pick to get it through.

The idea of trading Dermott is intriguing. Personally I would not do it but we do have a stalked Lhd side in players and prospects. With dermottt being so efficient on the right side and cheap I don’t see it as a good move. I would assume your idea would be to flip him for a righty?

Personally @OldNYIfan I would rather stay away from larsson but I guess sometimes beggars can’t be choosers. I like the idea of spurgeon much better but he isn’t’ a heavy presence in the hitting department.

As usual though it is a reasonable proposal and another well thought out plan.

I like the Wild trade if it's made at the draft and there isn't a player available that we like at pick 44. Kylington is a very intriguing player to me.

Edit: whoops confused myself I think we have pick 43, not 44...

As a MTL who has watched you lose to Boston in the last 2 years, the glaring things I see that you need to fix are more depth scoring and more physicality. It's going to be tough to do with little cap but you'll just have to look for bargains

What a horrible, horrible mistake! Casting my mind back over the last 5 minutes or so, I can safely say I've never made a mistake that bad.

The ONLY person I think I would trade Dermott for is Andersson.

I liked, actually loved, the idea of Spurgeon in the summer but now he has only one year left on his contract. However, although he is not an earth-shaking hitter, he does rarely get beat on defense because his speed usually allows him to get where he wants to be vis-a-vis the opposing player.

Yeah you know what, nevermind, we'd take this trade IN A HEARTBEAT WOW WHAT A GREAT DEAL FOR THE WILD BEST TRADE I'VE EVER SEEN for pick 44, but Fenton LAUGHS AND HANGS UP AND DELETES TORONTO'S NUMBER AND MURDERS DUBAS' FIRST BORN CHILD FOR EVEN THINKING ABOUT TRADING PICK 43 FOR THIS PACKAGE.

I've had way too much coffee today...

I can be persuaded to substitute Jesper Lindgren for Holl, but I like the idea of guys playing in their hometown.

Honestly I wouldn't mind the trade as is. I've wasted way too much time watching games of the players projected to go in the top 15 so I don't know a whole lot about guys projected to go in the second round, but if there isn't anybody Fenton likes that round then dealing the pick for a young guy like Kylington makes a lot of sense to me. Brodin is still pretty young but he'll be 26 next season with a year left on his deal and if we aren't contenders by the time his contract expires I could see him walking in free agency. That means we might need a replacement on the left side and currently we have nobody in our system that could potentially fill Brodin's skates. I really like Kylington's game, he could be the perfect Brodin replacement if we need one.
